The Must-Have Pieces for a Stylish Stay-at-Home Wardrobe
As many of us continue to live the stay-at-home life, it’s essential to maintain a sense of ‘normal’ through our daily routines and dressing up. It’s so easy to just not bother! Even if you are not going out, it doesn’t have to prevent you from looking your best and feeling comfortable. It’s time to cultivate a stylish stay-at-home wardrobe that doubles not just as leisurewear but also as work-from-home attire. I’ve been working from home for over 15 years anyway, so I understand how you can get stuck in a pyjama rut! Below, I’ve rounded up the must-have pieces that strike a balance between comfort, functionality, and fashion.
Coordinated Loungewear Sets
A soft, coordinated loungewear set implicitly gives off a more organised, put-together look. Look for neutral shades or soft pastels for a calming vibe. How about wearing something like a pyjama shorts and top in a matching set? It’s trendy, comfy, and perfect for warm weather. This can be my preferred summer morning look if I’m catching up on things on my laptop. When it’s a little colder, I prefer something like the above picture, matching sweatpants and a sweater.
Versatile Dresses and Tunics
When you think of televised celebrity interviews conducted from their living rooms, it’s less often about suits and more about relaxed yet chic outfits. A versatile dress or tunic, in soft materials like cotton or linen, is a must-have for your stay-at-home wardrobe. You can dress it up with accessories for your Zoom meetings and dress it down for household chores.
Lightweight Scarves
One thing I have noticed when working from home is how quickly temperatures can change, especially if you’re in England! The sun can be shining through one moment, heating the room up, then the next it’s cloudy and chilly. Lightweight scarves are ideal to have on hand as they keep you just warm enough and are easy to throw on and off when the temperature changes.
House Slippers
Never underestimate the power of a good pair of house slippers. They can keep your feet cosy, ensure you don’t slip while moving around, and could even help in reducing stress on your feet. Look for ones with memory foam insoles for that extra comfort. I personally have a criss-cross sandal design in blush pink faux fur, so they’re classic and cute! Perfect for pairing with leggings.
Comfortable Jeans
How could I not include this? I love denim! Even when at home, a pair of perfectly fitted jeans could be your best friend. They’re not just for going out. It’s perfect for the days when you want to do more than lounge on your couch. Make sure to opt for stretchy materials for added comfort. Jeggings are ideal for this!
Cardigans and Oversized Sweaters
A soft cardigan or an oversized sweater is perfect for cosying up with a book or lounging on a chilly day, once you finish your work. Choose materials like cashmere or soft cotton for the ultimate comfort. These pair perfectly well with jeans or leggings, giving you a chic style for working and chilling. It’s something that can be worn the entire day, so you don’t have to worry about changing.
Workout Clothes & Leggings
Just because you’re staying at home doesn’t mean you should skip your workout routine. Having comfortable and functional workout clothes motivates you to keep up with your workout plan. Choose moisture-wicking fabrics and styles that offer enough support and freedom of movement. Of course you can still go to the gym if you prefer that, but a lot of us are preferring to continue the stay at home lifestyle and workout at home too, especially with the advancements of apps and online classes. You can wear your cute exercise outfits while working in the afternoon, so you can jump straight into working out when you’re done. Comfort and practicality in one! Leggings are perfect for this! Plus they pair so well with sweaters!
Graphic Tees
A staple in both outdoor and stay-at-home wardrobes, graphic tees can bring a pop of colour and personality to an otherwise plain outfit. Pair it with sweatpants or jeans and you’re all set for a relaxed day at home. Just don’t wear these for those important zoom meetings! If graphics are not your thing, you can’t go wrong with a plain tee in some neutral shades to go with your jeans and slippers.
Chic Trousers
Imagine the comfort of your favourite pair of pyjamas, but chic and wearable outside. You are mostly likely going to be sitting all day, so a pair of comfortable, yet chic trousers is a must! I am personally living in my linen wide leg trousers or my straight leg, black sweatpants. They’re so comfortable and they are that perfect blend of stay at home and looking good. Make sure your trousers are loosely fitted, or have a lot of stretch to them, so you can be comfortable while working on the computer.
Jewellery
The right jewellery pieces help elevate your look. Think delicate necklaces, petite rings, and statement earrings. But remember, it should also be about comfort. Opt for lightweight pieces that you can wear all day and don’t interfere with your daily activities. I would personally avoid too many statement rings and definitely avoid bangles and bracelets in general! These get in your way when you’re typing on the laptop.
The secret to a perfect stay-at-home wardrobe is to choose pieces that make you feel good about yourself, amid the cosy familiarity of home. The essentials listed above will upgrade your at-home fashion game, ensuring you’re comfortable, stylish, and always prepared, whether you’re heading to the kitchen for a coffee break or sitting down for a work meeting. With these pieces, you’re all set to master the art of at-home dressing. You definitely don’t have to look sloppy and unkempt!

I can learn a lot from this as I’m guilty of attending virtual meeting in my pyjamas! Luckily we never turn our cameras on! 😂 I second a good pair of slippers, essential for trying to keep my feet warm. You’re not the only one that works in a room that changes climate throughout the day, my office is always a constant temperature, how do they do it?

I have no idea how! Unless they have air conditioning lol, then it does it itself. American homes do this and keep the temperature at the exact number you set by going off and on! Unlike here!
My office certainly doesn’t have air conditioning! They are too cheap for that! Probably the thick walls of the old WW2 building help regulate the temperature. 🤷♂️ What?! The UK needs to copy that from America! Can’t be that great for the environment though. 🤔
