A lot of you have asked me previously about my hair and have mentioned that you really like the style, so I thought I would share with you my hair care routine. I use quite a few different products as I do have extra thick hair, even my hairdresser struggles with the amount of hair I have, ha ha. It’s quite a long routine each time I wash it (about an hour and half from start to finish), so I actually only wash it twice a week. As it’s really thick and coarse, it doesn’t get greasy until 3 days, so that works out well for me.
I brush my hair thoroughly to get out any knots before washing as it’s easier, then I use Aussie Miracle Moist Shampoo twice, followed by the Aussie Miracle Moist Conditioner or the 3 Minute Miracle Conditioner which I leave on for about 3-5 minutes. I rotate the conditioners each time I wash my hair. After I have finished, I leave it in a towel for a while to get rid of the excess water, then I spritz some Aussie Leave In Conditioner on the mid to the lengths of my hair. I use a wide tooth comb to brush out the tangles and then I apply some Tigi After Party sometimes. When it’s all combed through and wet, I leave it for a little while longer, maybe 20 minutes, to let the water dry out a little bit more and the I smooth a little bit of Argon Oil to the lengths of my hair while it’s damp, just before I blow dry it. This oil really makes it so soft and the Tigi After Party makes it shiny and smell good.
When it’s finally dry after blow drying with a paddle brush for ages and getting arm ache, I use my Aussie Take The Heat heat defensive spray before straightening it. I don’t always straighten it, but if I don’t then my hair is usually a bit wild and puffy and not very nice. So I prefer to. After I straighten it, that’s it, I don’t apply anything else to my hair. So you can see it’s a long process, but honestly if I don’t do all of the stuff it looks like an unruly main! I sometimes curl it as well with my hair straighteners, I use GHD flat irons and I learned to curl it with those a long time ago to create loose waves.
Although at the moment, 3 times a week I have been only washing the mid to tip area of my hair with the Joico Colour Endure Violet Shampoo because I am toning down the brassy orange tones that were left from the dip dye process. It’s really working as it’s a much softer blonde now and looks much nicer! It’s a great product but it definitely comes out purple. It’s like purple hair dye, it’s really intense and it stains everything lilac so you have to be really careful with it. It doesn’t stain your hair though, which is great. It just attaches itself to the orange/yellow pigments and counteracts them as purple is the opposite shade in the colour wheel. It’s a great product! Some people have said it’s drying, but I have found it to be fine on my hair.
You may have noticed that I do use a lot of Aussie products, but I have been doing that for years. I’ve tried many different brands over the years and I love Aussie the best as it makes my hair so much more manageable. I’m also not in contact with Aussie or anything, so I’m not endorsed by them, I just love their hair care!

Your haircare routine takes even longer than mine! I do my chap’s head in every time it’s hair wash day! I love Aussie products as well, but I find my hair is a nightmare whatever I use, as it’s thick, coarse and dry and also curly…if I want to blow dry and straighten it I need a clear 2 hours…
Your hair always looks really lovely in your posts, so thanks for sharing your routine with us! x

Thank you siobhan! Yeah, hair really can be an absolute nightmare, but I think when you get it right, it’s definitely worth it as it transforms your whole body in my opinion!
I used Aussie for ages. Loved how their products smelled and they usually left my hair super soft. But for the past 18 months or so (& that’s a long time for me!) I’ve been only using LUSH products on my hair. I’ve really noticed a difference in the general health of my hair. Not sure if you tried their products, but if you fancy trying I’d recommend Daddy-O shampoo 🙂
Loving the posts Lorna! I look forward to them!

I can’t even go near the door of the LUSH shop because of the smell, their products just stink so much I can’t stomach even touching them lol! I’m really good with Aussie so I’m happy to use that 🙂
My first hairdresser moved, the hairdresser i got now refuses to cut me anymore! My hair is like a svinto ball! Everyone hates it :/

Lol! That sounds really funny :/
Hi! Really I like your blog. You have brilliant stylizations. As for hair – I know it. I also have thick hair and there is a biggest problem with them. At one time every day I have straightened out but it destroyed the market my hair. I am using shampoo from Dove or Syoss. Now I will change shampoo on so of natural components. Thank you very much for the nice comment on my blog. 🙂

Oh yeah don’t do that everyday as it will ruin it so much! I only do it about once a week 🙂
I use blue malva shampoo by Aveda (I don’t know if they have it in Britain, but you can get it online) and it’s a purple toning shampoo that’s lasted me almost a year it’s so big, but it doesn’t stain anything and smells a little like cherries. Gosh, I wish I had your problem, my hair has always been in need of extra volume! lol

Lol! Yeah I could do without the volume sometimes! When I have it cut I always have it thinned out as much as possible, but it grows right back! Ha ha!
You make lovely hair. I should give Aussie a try.
