Getting My Fairytale Boot Fit With Ted & Muffy

Getting the perfect fitting boots at the Ted & Muffy Bath Blogger Event

Last month I was invited to the Ted & Muffy Blogger Event here in Bath and I was super excited. Ted & Muffy used to be called DUO and I’m sure that you will know from my past blog posts that it was one of my favourite brands. Due to me having a larger size foot (UK 6 or 7) and very small calves, I can’t fit standard boots from the usual shops as the calf size is always too big and I look more like a pirate than someone who is into fashion. As Ted & Muffy do different foot sizes and calf widths from size 30cm to 50cm (mine coming in at 33-34cm), it’s the perfect option for me! With this in mind, I’m always looking forward to seeing the new boots that they have coming online.

I attended the blogger event with Adam so he could see what it was like and help take my photos of course, and the boots that I had in mind were the Nightingale in brown (which you can see just below) and the patent cherry lace up flat shoes. I tried on both and after realising that the shoes weren’t really for me, despite how gorgeous they were, I decided upon the Nightingale as my pair to keep. I was then introduced by one of the lovely fitters to the Ismene burgundy leather boots as she knew I loved burgundy, and this put a huge decision in my mind about what I would choose. I decided eventually to stick to the Nightingale as I would wear them more and that would be the best choice for me. I had looked at the Empress thigh high black boots too, but I thought since I have thigh high grey ones from last time at the Ted & Muffy event, I should try something else.

It was a great evening and of course it’s lovely to meet up with my local blogger friends again like Tara from The Style Rawr and spend time with like minded people. It’s a lovely atmosphere in the Bath Ted & Muffy store too though as it’s really bright, white and clean with lots of space, not to mention the fitters and staff are absolutely lovely. I definitely recommend that you check out the store if you go past one! When I got home though, I had some thinking to do as I realised how much I loved the Ismene burgundy boots and then I realised that just because I have grey over the knee boots, black should definitely still be an option, so I ended up ordering both online with 25% off which they have going on for first orders. I took the Empress in the smallest calf size of 30cm as they are stretch suede and they fit perfectly. I opted for the Isemene in a 33cm, but they ended up too big in the ankle area and I had to exchange for a 31cm, which is quite tight but I’m hoping they will stretch in the calf and still fit in the ankle!

As you can see it was quite the choice when it comes to their boots and it does really make me happy that I can wear such beautiful tall boots that fit me, I would honestly be lost without Ted & Muffy in my life! I know the same is for my mum as she has very muscular calves and has the opposite problem of normal boots being too small, so they work for everyone really well, including those of you lucky enough to have a normal calf width too! I also got the chance to chat with Ted & Muffy about their relaunch and re-branding from their previous DUO name and you can check that out below! I’d love for you to read it!

So below you can see lots of photos from the event, including the little blogger name tags we had which we made our boot wishes on and of course some photos from the store as well as the interview. I hope you enjoy this post and look forward to the new outfit photos over the next couple of months with my new boots!

So, can you tell my readers about the transformation from DUO to Ted&Muffy?

Our aim was to create an entirely new brand based on the original vision and energy that inspired DUO founders Ted&Muffy Maltby: to design and make finely-crafted, superb quality boots and shoes that not only look amazing, but also fit perfectly.

Ted&Muffy brings this pioneering philosophy back to life with a new level of boutique designs, crafted from exquisite leathers and suedes, with a fairytale fit. It is our mission to make drop dead gorgeous boots and shoes that fit like a glove.

What can we expect from Ted & Muffy?

Ted&Muffy is a boutique footwear brand. To us this means three things: individuality, quality and luxury service. Each Ted&Muffy style is unique to us and designed with great care by our in-house design team. We invest in the finest materials to create beautiful, unique pieces that will stand the test of time and our styles are expertly crafted to the highest standard by carefully selected European manufacturers. When it comes to shopping we go to great lengths to provide an inspiring, stylish and personal shopping experience and offer expert advice on all our styles, whether you visit one of our luxury boutiques or shop online with us.

You have some gorgeous boots and I love that they fit my small calves nice and tightly. What inspired the brand to want to create the fairytale fit?

We want every woman to experience that magical moment when beautiful design and flawless fit come together in perfection unison, and make you look and feel incredible.

Our array of (calf and shoe) widths for legs of all shapes and sizes ensures that every woman finds her fairytale fit at Ted&Muffy.

How would you style the Nightingale boots or the Empress? These are 2 of my favourite boots from the collection.

Nightingale is a beautiful buttery soft suede knee high boot with a 9cm block heel that makes it a great choice for either day or night. Wear them in the weekend with a folk-inspired dress and chunky knit longline cardigan and bare legs. Alternatively, for a chic weekday ‘look’ you could pair them with a pair of skinny dark blue jeans, winter white roll neck and this season’s sleeveless coat.

Empress are standout over the knee boots. Made from luxe, stretch suede with an elegant pointed toe and leather lining, they slip over skinny jeans like a dream. Wear with black jeans for a ‘never-ending legs’ look and a sumptuous velvet blazer over a plain white tee, or if you’re feel more daring channel this seasons Victoriana theme. We love them with a black button down cord mini skirt and high neck, ruffle blouse. They’re equally amazing over plain skinnies and you’re favourite chunky winter knit.

What are your best-selling boots?

Fabulous knee highs remain a firm favourite, with casual smart styles such as Midnight and Huntsman (also featured as one of ‘The 5 Best Boots for an active Fall’ on Vogue.com), and more rugged styles such as our Demeter biker boots.

I’d love to know what we can expect to see for the SS16 season! Do you have any amazing styles lined up for the Summer?

We have a gorgeous SS16 collection lined up, ranging from stunning stiletto’s and sandals to luxe sneakers and loafers that we can’t wait to launch! It will be available early February in our Ted&Muffy boutiques (London, Bath, Edinburgh) and on tedandmuffy.com

What’s your take on wearing long boots in the warm weather? Is it a do or a don’t?

A simple pair of leather boots with bare legs can be worn all year round as far as we’re concerned! Style them for example with a cute ‘folklorey’ dress or opt for a soft suede or light brown/tan leather to soften the overall look.

Thank you so much!

And finally, here’s a very adorable photo of my little one getting excited about the three boxes from Ted & Muffy that arrived! One box obviously contains the Nightingale Boots in Cocoa Brown that I chose while I was at the Ted & Muffy store and the other two are the boots that I purchased myself. These include the Empress thigh high boots you have seen in black suede and the Ismene burgundy knee high leather boots you can see at the top of the post. I can’t wait to share more outfits with you soon, including the boots!

Your cat is so pretty! 🙂 What huge wide eyes s/he has. 😀

You look great in all of the boots but I think my favourite photo in this collection is the first of the two where you’re sat in the chair. Your whole outfit is gorgeous and the chair adds something too – hard to explain really. It’s almost like a throne. 😉

I also really like the extreme close up textures shot.

Thanks Steven 🙂 So glad you like the photos! That was Adam’s idea for me to sit in the chair actually, it worked out really well I think, glad you agree! She does have gorgeous eyes doesn’t she? Little tip you might not know, tortoise shell coloured cats are almost always 100% female, while completely ginger cats are almost always 100% male. Just in case you ever come across one in the future!

Yeah, I’d heard that rule of thumb for cats before – but wasn’t sure how true it is. 🙂 When I was a kid we had a completely ginger cat (Curly) who was female and a tortoise shell cat (Tom) who was male. 🙂 It’s true that all our other tortoise shell cats (Dobbin, Burley, Cassie, Vicky, Lucy) were female though and our only other ginger cat (Bagpuss) was male. 🙂

Oh wow really?? That’s crazy how that worked out! You are the only I know that’s happened to! That’s lucky 😀 And that’s a lot of cats too! Are you a crazy cat man like I’m a crazy cat lady?

Well I grew up on a farm so we always had several cats. The most we had at any time was 7. 🙂 (I’ve not even mentioned the black or black and white ones in my previous) comment. I can remember 18 cats though. 😀 The last survivor was Susie who moved to France with my parents in 2000 and lived to be 19. 🙂

They were all working cats keeping down the mouse/rat population but they were pets too and all but a few of them came into the house.

I’ve always liked cats. I don’t have one myself. I maybe would if it wasn’t against the rules of the flat I live in. So I just have my fish tank. Call me a crazy fish man if you like. 😉

It was SO lovely to see you again, Lorna! You made the right decision, I don’t blame you for splurging online. I haven’t had much of a chance to wear mine yet, I can’t wait to style them in an outfit post and I’m looking forward to the next collection already.

It’s always lovely to see you too Tara! I can’t wait to see how you style yours, they are really bold and pretty! I think with some type of kimono and one of your signature hats would be amazing! I can’t wait for the new seasons collection either!

10 million, billion ‘wows’ to these boots! I also have very slim calves and find it difficult to find boots that fit them properly without making me look like a fisherman haha. This brand sounds beyond fantastic and I adore each of the three pairs of boots you selected – have fun wearing them!! 🙂
