I’m really excited by this post as Adam is going to be sharing some things with all of you on Raindrops of Sapphire now and again. You already met him in our engagement Q&A, but as I have been slowly bringing in men’s content to my posts, a review is next in line! So here is Adam’s review on the Adidas Hamburg Shock Red Gum Trainers/Sneakers for you all. Enjoy! Lorna xx.
After years of wearing smart shoes, high end designer high tops and even casual summer footwear like Toms, my feet had long forgotten what it was like to wear something truly comfortable. When I finally got the chance to wear these Adidas Hamburg Trainers in Shock Red Gum it was quite a shock (pun intended) how much softer and how much more comfortable they are. Even walking around town all day doesn’t diminish this effect, which is like music to my ears, and that’s without socks too.
I went for my standard sports trainer/sneaker size (not designer high top size) of a men’s UK 9 and it was the right choice – a perfect fit. With that, I would say they definitely run true to size in case you are wondering about the fit. I know Lorna can vouch for the Adidas sizing too as she has a pair of their Gazelle’s in Burgundy and she takes her usual trainer size of a women’s UK 7. They are slim with a very low profile, so despite these trainers being quite bright, I find them to be understated and versatile.
I’ve long shied away from this style of footwear, but I was really attracted to the Shock Red Gum colour which is particularly unique. In fact I’ve never seen such a gorgeous red on any sneaker before, from either sports brands or designer fashion houses. How can I describe it? It’s a lovely soft red which is almost pinkish in hue, very much like coral, but photographs do not do this colour justice! It’s perfect for the current summer months and will easily add that spark of brightness once the weather turns to its inevitable grey as the seasons change. The main fabric is suede and the white Adidas signature three stripes and labelling are in a patent white leather, making the contrast quite striking. The midsole of these trainers is reinforced with a classic brown gum sole as well, making them more unique.
The Adidas Hamburg shoe is unquestionably a classic, originally unveiled way back in 1982 (has it really been that long?) and they are still as fresh as the day they hit the shelves. With the current trend of rediscovering everything retro, these sneakers are perfect to add that vintage touch to your wardrobe, but with a fresh and modern approach. I’ve been wearing them regularly since slipping them onto my feet, even forgoing my usual go to designer footwear in favour of the Adidas Hamburg, something I hadn’t thought possible, which is a testament to their design and comfort-ability. I will definitely be looking into other colours to add to my wardrobe in the future! This pair is a perfect match for my denim shorts, but maybe a brown might be just right for my skinny jeans.
Let me know if you want to see anymore reviews from me, especially on men’s trainers or general fashion. I know Lorna has a lot of male readers here so I’m happy to help out. In the meantime, you can buy these Adidas Hamburg trainers on the sale on Resole for only £55. – Adam.

Thanks! and I’ll try and do more reviews soon!
Hi Adam. As an ADIDAS enthusiast. I feel my review on the hanburgs may help others more if they are buying online. I’m a true to size adidas wearing at 43 1/3 euro or the 9.5 US sizes on all my shoes. Ranging from sambas to gazelles to even some of the zx styles. The hamburgs are actually not true to size. They run big!!!! I have to go down a complete size to 9 US. So I hope this helps anyone needing the info. My size in Nike is 10 US if that helps anyone compare.
Thank you for sharing this, Graham!
Okay first off, Adam! Yuss! This is good, this is really well done. The Hamburgs are such a rad design and the colour is killer. Thanks for the tip on the sizing, I find most Adidas run at least half a size large so that is a great heads up. Understated and versatile indeed! Thanks for sharing!

The colour is definitely something special! I was instantly drawn to them!
I liked that Adam shared his opinions, and by the way, I like Adidas very much and I used to live in a city near Hamburg, so – what’s not to love about these trainers? I love the classic design and the color! I like that they are very comfortable, who doesn’t like comfy shoes 🙂 Really a nice review! I hope you have a very sweet day!

Thank you 🙂
That is a beautiful pair and I would love to get my husband wear it but he’s much older and old school and he sticks to brown and black. I managed to get him wear a white pair and that was like a mega success to me. LOL!

You should definitely convince your husband to try some of these, he won’t regret it!
Lorna, I love colored sneakers.. I have had pink and now orange… I am looking for a nice color of green… these sneakers are really a great color… nice to see that Adam is going help you out showing off some men’s items xox
I’m glad you’re excited about it too, Launna! I love coloured pairs too!
That looks so cool, Adam! It is perfect pair to brighten up the day 🙂 I love colourful men trainers, however, when I point out something like that to my husband, he just walks away. He likes his greys, blacks and blues but nothing more when it comes to trainers! Men fashion posts sound good 🙂

I used to only wear the more subtle colours too, slowly introducing more colourful pieces over time. I’ll try and do more mens posts!
I think that they’re a beautiful colour. 🙂 On my screen they look to be slightly more pink than red – though that’s a positive point. 🙂 I have a lovely pair of bright pink Converse sneakers so I need no convincing on pink shoes for men. 😀 I’ve never been a trainers kind of person though as I much prefer sneakers for casual wear. Trainers sort of imply a degree of sportiness – and that’s so far from me! 😉 However, if I were to buy trainers then this is the kind of colour I would go for. 🙂
Great review, Adam. Please, yes, do write more. 🙂 That would be great! 😀

Thanks very much! 🙂 They are definitely a wonderful colour! They are much more striking in real life, photos can’t completely capture the vibrancy.
Fantastic review, Adam ! I like Adidas sneakers in this color!
Have a great weekend

Great review, these trainers look amazing, I really their colour. I don’t own any sneakers but I think it’s time to change that, they are so much more comfortable! 🙂

Definitely comfortable, makes a nice change to not have aching feet at the end of the day!
Hi Adam! It’s great to finally ‘meet’ you! This is a really well-written and insightful review. It’s great to hear the trainers are so comfortable, and the colour is definitely very striking and unique. It’s true, the nostalgia for retro styles seems to be everywhere, and is influencing trainer trends as well, so your review is very timely!
p.s – This was a great idea for a blog post Lorna! xx
