The Furry Slides & Sliders Trend Review + My Top 12 Picks
Ok, before you think I have gone crazy with this blog post, hear me out! Since I’m going to be covering my thoughts on trends and different types of posts like that as well here on Raindrops of Sapphire, I thought starting out with a trend that’s quite controversial (it’s literally like Marmite) would be interesting. The fur slides trend has been popular since Rihanna brought them out with her collaboration with Puma late last year, so it’s not completely new. Celebrities have been wearing them for many months as well, like Khloe Kardashian, Sofia Richie, Kendall Jenner, Gigi Hadid and more, so it’s definitely something that everyone is seeing out and about.
I wont lie as I never like to, so I will say that I thought fur slides were ridiculous when I first heard about them and saw them. I thought ‘Why on earth would anyone want a pair of slides with fur on them? Surely it defeats the purpose of the slide?’, but my mind was slowly changed after being exposed to the trend more and more, but mostly because so many brands were bringing out their take on it and I fell in love with one pair in particular. How did that happen? Well I was out shopping in Bristol with my mum a couple of weeks ago and we saw a lady wearing a pair of black faux fur slides in a shop. I did a double take on them and thought ‘Actually, you know what? In person these look pretty cool!’ so I went into River Island to try on the same pair and see what they looked like.
I found the faux fur slides instantly as they were all hanging up on the shoe section in various colours. The black was what I was most drawn to as I think it’s the most versatile and minimal, but I definitely love the grey and the khaki as well, so they might have made their way to my wish list. When I put them on, I looked in the mirror and thought they looked really cute actually, so did my mum, but I didn’t buy them then as I knew Adam would absolutely hate them (for the record, he thinks they’re the worst shoes he’s ever seen in his entire life, and those are his exact words, ha ha) and I like his opinion sometimes on my footwear. I was also thinking that the trend may be one of those fads you look back on in pictures and just regret it instantly and wonder why you decided to wear that and think you actually looked cool. I know the 80’s and 90’s do that for many people! But after deliberating over fur sliders for a week, I decided that I wanted to get the River Island pair and I didn’t care what anyone thought. I think they’re cute and I will wear them how I please, so I purchased them on Saturday (much to Adam’s dismay) in the store.
Now I know these fur slides are hated by half of the population and loved by the other half, but I am hoping to learn what people actually think of them in an honest way. So if you hate them, let me know, and if you love them, I want to know too! Just be honest. I think for me, it really depends on how you wear them, so I’ve been wearing my black ones with black skinny jeans as I think the combination is actually quite cool. I’ve also been wearing them with my cropped Levi’s 501 jeans, as I think they look really sweet. I’ve got an addiction to slides now as they’re so comfortable! So, anyway, f you hate the trend and this post doesn’t sway you into liking them, no problem, but for those of you who love fur sliders, I’ve included my favourite top 12 that are available at the moment and they’re all faux as I wouldn’t include real fur. Since they’re faux, it makes them incredibly affordable! My River Island pair were only £22, which I think is a fantastic price for a durable shoe!

Those things are everywhere these days. I do have to admit that they do a really good job of attracting attention, though they’re probably not ideal for negotiating a wide zebra crossing in heavy rain. 🙂

This post really made me laugh. I think you’re absolutely right about the divisive effect that furry sliders have on people. Personally, I can’t get past the feeling that these are intended for comfy use at home, with only one’s family seeing them! The furry part is cute, but are they meant for summer or autumn?! This trend is too confusing for a straightforward person like me, ha ha!
p.s – Imagine Adam’s reaction if you got a pair of furry sliders as a present for him as well, then expected him to wear them!

Oh my gosh, he would not be impressed if I did that, he would think it was a joke lol! I don’t think I could even do that to him as a joke, ha ha. And no problem that you’re on the fence or don’t like them. I think they are meant maybe for Spring/Summer? Sometimes they’re a little too warm to wear at the moment with the heat almost being 30 degrees, but I do love them!
