Denim x 4 At The Royal Crescent

A 4 x Denim Outfit At The Royal Crescent

It’s absolutely no secret that I love and adore denim, I mean I own a denim blog and have been working in the denim industry since I was 17, but it’s not often that I wear it all at once! So many people are still so afraid of wearing double denim and I think that’s crazy! It’s such a chic look, which is why I went two steps further and opted for quadruple denim. 4 lots of denim in one outfit might be considered overkill, but I actually really love the way it turned out. The key to getting it right was the different shades and textures of the fabric, mixed with the different fits and proportions. It would definitely be a bit much if I was wearing all 4 items in the same indigo blue shade, but breaking it up like this makes it work perfectly!

So, what was I wearing? I chose my MOTHER Skinny Jeans in Grey as the base as I think grey and blue denim goes together perfectly, so I styled them with my Topshop Sleeveless Denim Shirt which I have had for a few years now. The pale light blue shade was so complementary to the lighter tone of the grey that it was a match made in heaven. To add some extra texture, I took my GRLFRND Denim Jacket (see it properly here) as it was a slightly different shade of blue, then added in my Rebecca Minkoff Denim Bag. As you can see, they’re all completely different styles and colours. I then finished it off with my RAYE Grey Heels to complement the jeans, my Ray-Ban Wayfarer Sunglasses to give it some edge, and my JORD Frankie Wooden Watch, to just give it an extra pop of colour. It’s an outfit that I absolutely adore!

Getting to the location, as I mentioned before in my last post about The Circus here in Bath, I am bringing some more heritage to you! I’ve done a few shoots at The Royal Crescent before (see here) which gave you a look at the right side of it, but these photos were taken at the far, left end, which has more of a clean and bright stone appearance to it. So, what is The Royal Crescent? It’s a row of 30 terraced houses laid out in a sweeping crescent (half moon shape) right near Victoria Park in Bath. It was designed by the architect John Wood, the Younger and built between 1767 and 1774, which seemed really fast to me for a structure of its magnitude back in the Georgian era! It’s actually listed as one of the greatest examples of Georgian architecture to be found in the United Kingdom and is a Grade I listed building. No wonder all the tourists come to visit it!

The 500-foot-long (150 m) crescent has 114 Ionic columns on the first floor with an entablature in a Palladian style above. It was the first crescent of terraced houses to be built and an example of “rus in urbe” (the country in the city) with its views over the parkland opposite. The street that is known today as “The Royal Crescent” was originally named “The Crescent.” It is claimed that the adjective “Royal” was added at the end of the 18th century after Prince Frederick, Duke of York and Albany had stayed there. He initially rented number one and later bought number 16.

Some of you might probably recognise it as it is an iconic landmark known throughout the UK, but it’s also been featured in numerous movies and TV series as well, making it even more popular. I know Bath is used a lot for period movies as the architecture is still very much in its original form in many places of the city, so you can see The Royal Crescent in the 1965 film Catch Us If You Can, the 2007 TV edition of Jane Austen’s Persuasion (Jane lived in Bath) and in the 2008 film The Duchess starring Keira Knightley, but if not, you should definitely add it to your visiting list! So, what do you think of my outfit? And do you like the location? Lorna xx.

What I Was Wearing:
Jeans – MOTHER
Shirt – Topshop
Jacket – GRLFRND
Bag – Rebecca Minkoff

Fabulous look. 😀 I think you’ve judged to perfection how well all these different denim items work together and created a beautiful combination. 😀 I’m very much in favour of multiple denim combinations already. I often opt for a double denim look and have been known to go as far as quadruple myself too (jeans, shirt, jacket and shoes). The easiest way I have of doing the double is my white denim jacket with just about any of my jeans. 🙂

The architecture in these photos is certainly stunning. I get such a sense of history looking at these photos… and just imagine all the different outfits and styles that people have worn as they’ve walked there down through the decades… I don’t think our generation will leave behind very many pretty buildings for people to admire in 200 years from now, alas.

I don’t think I’ve ever seen quadruple denim outfit before, but you look great in yours! Picking different colours was definitely the way to go -that’s what I do when I do double denim, but it’s not something I wear often and I really should try it more I think! 🙂

Hope you are having a lovely week 🙂

Normally I’d find the prospect of quadruple denim a bit scary, but you make it look effortlessly chic! I love the different shades and textures of denim, and the grey shade of jeans works beautifully with the light blue denim top. I adore your denim jacket with the tiger print! It suits you a lot! As for the backdrop, it’s stunning! It’s amazing how Bath has kept so much of the architecture from the Georgian era with its original characteristics. I can see why you love the Royal Crescent. It’s incredible!

I hope you’re having a fab weekend Lorna.
