Filippo Loreti Review: Venice Moonphase Rose Gold Blue Watch

Filippo Loreti Review

It’s no secret that I love watches, and if a fancy one comes along, I’m all over it, so you can imagine my intrigue when I was first introduced to Filippo Loreti last month after reading reviews from so many people who loved the brand. I’ve got a lot of watches in my collection and have done a review for most of them, but I had never owned a moonphase watch like this one from Filippo Loreti, so I’ve now added something incredibly cool to my watch selection.

For those of you new to the brand like I was, Filippo Loreti is one of the premium, direct-to-consumer watch brands, offering iconic, limited-edition designs inspired by Italy’s classic culture and architecture, but they come with a more affordable price. The watch brand was founded by Danielius and Matas Jakutis in 2014 out of Milan, Italy, after they couldn’t find a premium watch anywhere with a decent price, as most yield a 4000% profit. So in 2015 and 2016, the company set the record for the most funded timepiece project in Crowdfunding history with their campaigns! You can see everyone loved the iconic look of the Filippo Loreti watch and wanted a premium look and feel at a lower price point.

This particular watch that I have here is the Filippo Loreti Venice Moonphase Watch in Rose Gold Blue and it retails for £219. The Venice series captures the city of Venice with its extravagant yet sophisticated and thoughtfully curated atmosphere. Filippo Loreti himself made sure that every design element was crafted and refined to acknowledge the many different aspects of the specific Italian architectural landmark, some of them being more secretive, like the architectural engraving on the back – which you can only see when it’s not worn.

The facade of the Basilica di San Marco, built with hundreds of arcs inspired the arc-shaped dial design of the Venice series where the curved hour indexes are surrounded by intricate upper layer structure providing the timepiece with a miniature representation of the sacred space for time in our lives.Luxurious, eye-catching, decadent – the mosaics provide the inspiration for Filippo Loreti’s classic Venice series. Day, week and month indicators, together with a day and night function, recall the passing of time in this most elegant of Italian cities.

Now to get to my Filippo Loreti review on the specifics and details of the Venice Moonphase Watch, it’s truly incredible how much work has gone into it! It features a caliber 6P00 movement which was created by Miyota, the Japanese maker universally acclaimed for the accuracy of its movements. This is what allows for the incredibly intricate and complex moonphase addition. How cool is it that it shows a sun for the day time and tracks the moon movement across the sky for night time? I love how fancy that is as I don’t own anything other than this Filippo Loreti watch with that on. It has mechanical features that provide more information than just the time, which is rare in women’s watches, then adding in the Venice moonphase makes it even rare for us females!

The 40mm case of the watch has a dome-shaped design to create a thinner, more refined and elegant presence on the wrist, which I can vouch for as it’s sleek and comfortable. It also has tapered lugs (the parts that connect the body of the watch case to the straps) which means they’re curved, giving it a more elegant and up to date appearance, all while conforming to the shape of a wrist. It’s extremely scratch-resistant made from sapphire glass with an anti-reflective coating which has been applied to the inside of the glass. Now this is good for anyone as nobody likes to scratch up their watch as soon as they got it – trust me, I’ve done that and it’s heartbreaking!

This watch also comes with two different straps, one is the rose gold mesh to match the bezel and the other is the signature blue leather to match the dial, which is a deep, intense shade of blue. I think it’s great you get both straps for the price of one! They feature little connectors on the back which are spring loaded and they are extremely easy to release to swap the straps over, so that’s great news! Now I did have a little trouble trying to fasten the rose gold mesh to begin with as I wasn’t sure how it fastened, but after viewing this video (click here or watch below), it was easy as you can adjust it to your size without needing links removed!

Then moving onto the back plate (I briefly mentioned earlier), it’s actually 3D! The entire collection has 3D bas-relief artwork depicting the amazing Basilica di San Marco in Venice, which was of course the original inspiration of the collection (see just below), so it makes perfect sense to showcase it on the back in all its glory! It’s so intricately detailed and beautiful – I’ve been admiring it for a while.

Then we get to the dial and the hands. The Venice Moonphase series features a concentric circular ‘disc’ texture to the sub-dials (day, date, month), this is designed to make them more eye-catching when the watch face catches the light. The blue face is contrasted with the sun-ray finishing of the dial making it extremely gorgeous to the eyes as soon as they spot it. The elegant, tapered ‘alpha-shaped’ hands are usually found on premium watches, so even without the bright daylight hours, you can see the time due to the elegant play of finishes on the hour and minute hands. This Venice Moonphase watch is even water resistant up to 50 meters!

So as you can see from my Filippo Loreti review, I’m fascinated by this Venice Moonphase watch and the intricate details it has. It makes buying a luxury watch that much easier because it’s actually affordable. I’m a huge fan of rose gold and as my blog is called Raindrops of Sapphire, I think the sapphire blue face is well suited! You wouldn’t think those two colours would often match very well together, but it’s a contrasting combination which I’m really liking. Mesh strap watches have become my favourite as of late as they’re comfortable and easy to wear, so if you’re like me, I couldn’t recommend this watch enough! However, if you don’t like mesh straps, the fact that it comes with the leather strap also makes it suitable for just about anyone. The brand make men’s and women’s watches, so even though this Filippo Loreti review is women’s, the men’s timepieces are similar. What do you think of this Filippo Loreti watch? Is it something you would wear?

– A wonderful and carefully selected collaboration with Filippo Loreti.

Oh wow, it’s a beautiful watch! I love the dark navy blue of it! I only have a couple of watches and I go through phases of wearing them all the time or not at all, so I’ve never really invested in an expensive one!

Hope you are having a great week 🙂 I’m enjoying our cooler autumn weather, it’s a lovely change from the heat we’ve had this year!

Looks a great deal more expensive than £219, especially for a precision instrument that can legitimately double as an objet d’art.

The face of the watch is certainly very pretty as that blue is such a lovely shade. 🙂 To my eyes it looks infinitely better with the blue leather strap than with the mesh strap – but that’s just personal taste as I’ve never been sold on mesh straps. Anyway, it’s certainly a beautiful item overall. 🙂
