The Topshop Borg Denim Jacket Outfit
This outfit here somewhat became my uniform during the Autumn for running errands and just popping out. Those of you who follow me on Instagram (@LornaRaindrops) will know that I was debating over purchasing this denim jacket from Topshop for a while because I wasn’t sure if I liked it, but every time I saw it, I loved it even more. When I tried it on, I was head over heels in love with it, so I was sold on keeping it and it turned out to be one of the best things I did.
Not everyone loves it though, in fact it was pretty 50/50 when I put the polls up because of the borg design, but I can’t get enough of it, and still love it so much now. Since it’s designed to fit a bit boxy and oversized, I went with a UK 8 to keep that look, and I am glad I did because it means I can wear it with thicker knitwear underneath too, if I so wish. I was worried that it did make me look disproportionate and would overwhelm me with so much material, but much like my teddy coats, once you get the proportions right with the rest of your clothes, it looks fantastic.
So my outfit here is the Topshop Borg Denim Jacket (click here as it’s on sale right now) which I styled with my Topshop Cropped Grey Jumper, and then finished it off with my PAIGE Margot Skinny Jeans, as they’re a similar blue wash. If you prefer a different borg on the denim jacket though, there’s another option that the brand has as there’s two versions (click here for the other one). When it comes to double denim though, I usually only wear two completely separate pieces in different washes, so the fact that I’m doubling up on the same mid blue is a turnout for the books, ha ha, but for me, the reason I did it and avoided the Justin Timberlake and Britney Spears fiasco of 2001, is because the cream borg detailing really makes it unique and different. I don’t think you could overdo the denim with a denim jacket like this as it’s such a wonderful combo, plus, having some skin on show from the cropped top just tones it down even more.
Now again, as I wanted this look to be fully about the double denim combination, I didn’t want to include any footwear as it would detract from the vibe I was going for. For those of you interested though, I’ve just been wearing this ensemble with either my Fila Disruptor Trainers or some different Chelsea boots as it can be dressed up or down. I’ve got a grey pair of Nike’s that I use too and they often match the grey knitwear underneath. It’s an extremely versatile combination though and I can even see it looking good with heels too no doubt. Now, be completely 100% honest, do you like the denim borg jacket and the outfit, or is it not to your tastes? Lorna xx.

It definitely doesn’t overwhelm you. (And I do hope it’s warm where you are; after a 15º afternoon, we’re abut to be snowed upon, or so they say.)

It’s pretty cold here at the moment, we’re expecting snow in our town, and other towns already have it. I think it’s around 2 degrees Celcius here.
This is the best double denim look I’ve seen! I absolutely adore your jacket. It looks so cozy and stylish!

You keep on torturing us with these stunning autumn photos Lorna 🙂 100% an awesome stylish outfit with this denim borg combination, looks very cosy and appealing. Your blonde hair completes it. The photos are really good, besides the vivid background, especially the last one where you hold your hair. Very good, nothing trashy or indecent or annoying. One thing I’ve always liked about your site is that you keep things nice and simple, not only the outfits. The font you’ve chosen is another example of this: a simple sans serif, highly legible even at small sizes without any twirls. I admit, the easy-to-read font is one of the reasons why I completely read your posts, I’m totally honest about that. Never thought Justin and Britney had such an affection for wearing waxcloth and milking cows though 🙂

Oh thank you so much! I always have a thing for making sure things are readable, easy to look at, a clean layout etc. so I’m glad that’s going noticed! I don’t like fancy text either as it’s too much of a struggle on the eyes. Glad you like the outfit! Double denim is always a winner for me!
Such a fresh take on double denim. I love this jacket!

Wow! I’m liking the jacket much more than I thought I would. I thought the fleece element might be a bit too much but it really isn’t. I think your choice of jeans here might be the key to why this works so well. That you’ve chosen jeans similar in colour to the jacket kind of balances the outfit out so that the fleece doesn’t overwhelm the denim in the jacket. 🙂 Those jeans are gorgeous in their own right, by the way. I quite like the look of double denim that matches as that’s sometimes what I do when I’m wearing double denim – so long as I have something else in the outfit that isn’t denim, of course… as you have here with that cropped jumper.
If I had to sum up this look in two words I’d say “cute rebelliousness” 😀

Oh yay! So happy you like it! I feel the same way, choosing a similar washed jean to the jacket made the sherpa not seem as significant as there was less of it compared to the denim overall, so I’m happy you picked up on that! You always get the subtle things!
Thanks. 🙂 Well it’s probably that I’ve been reading your blog and seeing your style long enough now to understand a little (I won’t claim more than that) of how you might think when vreating your looks and styles… that and I suppose a fair chunk of common ground with you in what I like the look of so maybe I just naturally notice these things?
Have you tried out this jacket with any radically different combinations yet? If so, how did it look?
Author
That makes sense to me 🙂 And no I haven’t actually, I have pretty much worn it the same way every time, since I really liked it, so I will have to try out something different and see how that goes!
