Get My Favourite Denim Autumn Looks

So… It’s officially Autumn! That means it’s my favourite season of the year! The boots, the jackets, the leathers, the scarves… Yay! Things are finally back to ‘somewhat normal’ too regarding the whole Covid situation, so I cannot wait to shoot some more Autumn inspired outfits for you soon! I am currently still in the USA in Ohio, and I’m not back for a couple more weeks, but I thought I would get started with this blog post and showing you how you can get some of my favourite Autumn outfit looks for a little less! I’ve chosen some of the newer jeans styles and cuts, with a more affordable price point, so take a look below, and check out some of my outfit styling tips! Happy shopping! Lorna xx.

The Slim Bootcut Jean

V by Very | New Look | V by Very

I used to be a huge fan of bootcut jeans when I first got into premium denim and bootcut was pretty much the only option around, but when skinny came out, I instantly switched to that cut as they were less overwhelming and easier to wear. The trend of the slim bootcut has since came around and I absolutely love it! You get the look of the bootcut, but in a more refined, elegant, and stylish way. There’s no excess material bulking at the ankle, and the hem is cropped too, perfect for showing off your boots. The way I love to wear mine is with a suede or leather biker jacket, a t-shirt or slim knit, and a pair of ankle boots with a heel, to elongate your legs and enhance the slim bootcut silhouette. My specific pair of jeans here is by PAIGE, but I’ve included some other options above for you with a cheaper price point. My suede Balfern jacket is by Allsaints, and my boots are by Topshop, but you can get a similar pair here too. So, here are some of my tips for wearing slim bootcut jeans:

  • Choose a medium/light blue slim bootcut with a higher rise and shorter inseam
  • Tuck a t-shirt or slim knit into the the jeans
  • Wear a suede or leather biker jacket with a cropped length
  • Choose a pair of ankle boots with a heel and higher shaft
  • Minimal belts look great with this look

The Mom Jeans

V by Very | Levi’s 501 | V by Very

Mom jeans have been trending for quite a few years, and I own a couple of pairs. I have light blue and washed black, but I absolutely love the traditional style so the Levi’s light blue, vintage looking washes always win for me! I’ve chosen three different mom jeans as options and linked them underneath the image above, so you can get my look for less by using brands like V by Very and Levi’s, as mine are AGOLDE, which is a little more money.

I absolutely love how they look when worn with combat boots or dressed up with heels. As we are copying my looks though, layering is key for the Autumn and Winter months. I love to wear knitwear and unbuttoned coats, so you can play with textures and angles, really making the denim the focal point of the outfit. My boots I wore here are the Jimmy Choo Cruz Boots and I think they’re incredible with mom jeans. The coat is by REISS, from a few seasons back, but you can get many different teddy coat options out there, but keeping to a neutral colour palette is key! You don’t want to overpower the jeans. Make sure the mom jeans are fitted and flattering too, as you don’t want to venture into the 90’s dad jeans trend of super baggy jeans! You need a pair that show off your figure and go with the curve of your body, and are slightly cropped. So the key things to remember here are:

  • Style mom jeans with neutral knitwear
  • Layer a longer, unbuttoned coat over the knitwear
  • Choose a vintage mom jean wash with a slimmer fit and short inseam
  • Wear the jeans slightly cropped with combat boots

The Skinny Jeans With Boots

V by Very | River Island | Calvin Klein Jeans | V by Very

For those of you who have followed me for years and know my style, you will be aware that skinny jeans tucked into over the knee boots is my ultimate go to for the Autumn/Winter months. It’s a look that I am known for, and it’s what I recommend to anyone that wants to rock denim, while keeping warm, and looking incredibly stylish! You cannot go wrong with an outfit like this! The key for me here is the proportions! I like to choose long boots with heels (like these Stuart Weitzman boots) to really elongate the legs, and I will always choose a coat or jacket that’s a longer length, hitting around mid thigh, and I’ll keep a neutral colour palette. The coat and boots together will always make a statement and the lengths of both pieces together really work! If over the knee or thigh high boots aren’t your thing though, an outfit I always wear on the more casual days is cropped skinny jeans and a pair of statement ankle boots!

Skinny jeans have become a staple part of everyone’s wardrobe and they’re a classic in most brands collections, so the key to wearing them is all in the other pieces that you choose. I regularly choose black skinny jeans as the base for my outfits as they blend in nicely, allowing your boots and accessories to shine. We don’t want the skinny jeans as the focal point, so I’ve selected four different, more affordable black skinny jeans above for you to choose from, as mine are by L’AGENCE, and here are the final tips on getting this look of mine this season.

  • Opt for a black skinny jean with a higher rise
  • Tuck these jeans into over the knee, heeled boots
  • Tuck the front of your knitwear into the jeans (add a belt sometimes)
  • Layer a mid thigh length coat over the top
  • Keep a neutral colour palette
  • For ankle boots, wear a cropped skinny jean so the ankle shows

The Denim Mini Skirt With Boots

Missguided | Mango | Superdry

On those Autumn days when it’s a little warmer, I will swap out my skinny jeans in favour of a denim skirt (although I don’t always choose denim as the material). I will still keep the over the knee boots (I prefer thigh high for mini skirts) and I will layer a longer coat with this look, preferably full length, as it really makes a statement, and I find a subtle knit is perfect! You can either go for cropped, to play with proportions more, or you can choose a tucked in roll neck that is really fitted and thin, for that chic look.

The denim skirt that I was wearing here is older and it’s by GRLFRND, but I’ve linked up three different options above from affordable brands. The boots that I’m wearing are my trusty DUO Empress Boots that I got years ago, so you’ve seen them a huge amount of times on my fashion blog here! The long coat is by Topshop, and again, it’s really old, as is the cropped knit, so another option for the boots again is here, by Stuart Weitzman, and for a coat option, you could try REISS or Allsaints! Here are some final tips on styling a denim skirt with over the knee boots.

  • Opt for a denim mini skirt that hits mid thigh or above
  • Choose thigh high boots in suede to keep it classy
  • Wear a long, open, ankle length coat over the top
  • Keep the knitwear light and simple (cropped works for proportions, or tuck one in)

These are great layered looks for autumn 🙂 I am trying to get in some final wears of my jeans here as we are in spring, before the weather heats up and I make the switch from jeans to shorts, haha! It’s always nice when autumn rolls back around and I can wear my jeans again!

Hope you are having a lovely weekend 🙂 We had a fun day at the playground yesterday.
