How To Dress Up A Denim Maxi Skirt With Boots

How To Dress Up A Denim Maxi Skirt

The denim maxi skirt trend is hitting us hard this season! I remember when the denim maxi skirt used to be popular back in the early 2000’s, and just like every trend that comes back around, it’s here, and in full force! The difference with wearing denim maxi skirts now though is all in the styling.

We’re no longer looking at spaghetti strap tops, low rises and sandals, we’re looking at classy boots, blazers, shirts and even trainers/sneakers for styling. I wouldn’t have thought that a denim maxi skirt or a denim midi skirt would have been a piece that you could dress up in an elegant way, but you absolutely can!

For my outfit here, I styled this Mango Denim Midi Skirt with my 525 America Turtleneck and layered a Reiss Black Blazer over my shoulders. For the shoes, I went with my DUO Empress Boots and finished off with some accessories like my Louis Vuitton Belt, drop earrings with teardrop pearls and my Saint Laurent Le 5 A 7 Bag. Creating a very put together, polished, yet simple look.

This particular Louis Vuitton Belt is reversible and has the classic brown monogram on the other side, which you will see in another outfit very soon. It’s so versatile and pretty! Making it perfect for a look like this as it’s elegant and classy. Not to mention that it goes with my Saint Laurent Le 5 A 7 Bag perfectly as they both have gold logos on black. It’s statement making, but in a subtle way.

I took my blazer off for some of the shots too so you could see the silhouette of the denim skirt better, and see how it looks without more layers, stripping it back with simplicity. It just adds a slightly more casual element to the overall outfit, and a little less structure, which I think works well too. I can imagine this looking really good with a black turtleneck knit as well! I might try this soon!

How To Style A Denim Maxi Skirt With Boots

The beautiful thing about this Mango Midi Skirt is that it’s absolutely perfect for wearing with boots and it’s perfect for those of us who are shorter. I’m 5ft 4 and it hits just above my ankles, making it between a midi and maxi length on me. I’ve tried some maxi denim skirts and they just feel too long and overwhelming on my frame. So for us shorter ladies, it’s important to get the length right.

In terms of sizing, this one does run a bit small and I had to take a size medium. I wear a 27 waist jeans, but the size small wouldn’t fit over my hips/butt, so I had to size up. The split at the front really helps show off the boots that you choose to wear, whether that’s knee high boots, or an ankle version. Especially when the wind blows – as you can see, it’s a really flattering denim skirt. I recommend this one!

How to dress up a denim maxi skirt with boots:

  • Pick a denim midi or maxi skirt with a split in the front – to elongate legs.
  • Choose boots with a heel that are mid calf to knee high.
  • Choose boots that are either black or brown, to contrast against the denim.
  • Add a slim fitting knit (turtleneck is optional) and tuck it in.
  • Layer a blazer over your shoulders or wear it properly.
  • Choose a blazer colour that matches the boots for even contrasting.
  • Accessorize with elegant accessories like a simple belt and a classy bag.
  • Choose a long line, thin coat if you prefer that to a blazer.

So this is exactly how I chose to dress up my denim maxi skirt with boots and a blazer and I love how it turned out. It was a look that I put together at the spur of the moment and wanted to share these tips with you, as the denim maxi skirt trend is so hot right now! You have to jump on it and I couldn’t recommend this Mango denim midi skirt enough – it’s literally the perfect version! If you are a jewellery lover though and can’t leave the house without a necklace, you could definitely wear a dainty and elegant necklace around the collar of the turtleneck, or if it’s a v-neck, even better!

As always, please do let me know what you think of this outfit I put together, and how you feel about the denim maxi skirt trend or the denim midi skirt trend. Is it something you’re loving too?
