Key Things To Know About Hair Dryer Brushes

You know that feeling when you know you need to wash your hair, but you’re dreading having to go through the whole process of drying and styling it all over again? I always feel that way! If only there was a simpler way to dry and style your hair without all the multitasking and maneuvering. There is! And it’s called the hair dryer brush! I absolutely love them!

In this blog post, I’m going to tell you what a hair dryer brush is (if you don’t know), and how it can be beneficial to trim your drying and brushing time, since I can’t be without mine now.

What is a hair dryer brush?

Put simply, the hair dryer brush is a combination of your typical hair brush and a hair dryer. It essentially functions as both items but in one convenient product. So, while you brush your hair, the bristles work to de-tangle while the dryer function blows hot air through the vents directed to dry your hair.

Benefits of using a hair dryer brush

As you can imagine, the dryer and brush combination will also include some amazing benefits. For instance, normally, you’d have to dry your hair and then style it, but this can be time-consuming, especially if you have long, thick hair. Instead, you can now dry and style it at the same time, conveniently reducing the time it takes to style your hair. Plus, you don’t have to use a hair dryer and a brush separately in both hands.

Like hair brushes, blow dryer brushes also come in different shapes and sizes which makes them great for different hair styles and types. Finally, they’re also designed to reduce the damage done to your hair when directly exposed to heat. A hairdryer brush evenly disperses the hot air over your hair, drying it but limiting hot spots developing.

Types of hair dryer brushes

So, what kinds of hair dryer brushes can you choose from? While you can find them in many different shapes and sizes, there are primarily two types:

Hair Brush Blow Dryer

The blow dryer has a rectangular shape and comes with a built-in heating element. Its vents disperse the hot air evenly over your hair while its bristles are sturdy yet soft, offering you a convenient solution to de-tangling knots and straightening your hair.

Roller Brush Hair Dryer

The roller dryer is similar to your round hair brushes. It has a cylindrical barrel with a heating element in it. Generally, this shaped bush allows you to curl your hair and give it volume. I love this style as my hair is heavy and it gives me good root volume and smoothness.

How to choose a hair dryer brush

Before you choose your hair dryer brush, consider the following important factors:

What’s your hair type?

Do you have thinner hair or thicker? If you have thicker hair, you’re going to want to find a brush that has stronger bristles and can reach higher temperatures to provide you with the strength to straighten and dry it. The opposite applies to thinner hair. With thinner hair, you’ll need softer bristles and lower heat.

Brush Size

This will depend on what hairstyle you usually wear. If you enjoy curls, you might want a roller brush dryer to help you get lush, voluminous curls every time. Likewise, if you prefer straight hair, the rectangular blower brush will be perfectly suited to your needs.

Heat Settings

Heat settings are an important consideration to make. You don’t want a blower brush that blows too hot all the time because this will damage your hair. On the other hand, if it blows at a colder temperature it might not work well enough. So, we suggest finding one with variable heat settings, so it can reach high and low heat.

Hair dryer brush usage tips

Finding the perfect styling routine starts with understanding your hair type. If you have thin hair, it’s important to keep the heat low and opt for a brush with soft bristles. This helps prevent any damage while still achieving a smooth finish.

For those with thick hair, a higher temperature setting combined with a brush that has strong bristles will work best. This combo helps you straighten your hair more efficiently and adds volume where you need it.

If you’re working with curly hair, grab a large barrel brush to create loose, flowing curls or waves. It’s perfect for enhancing your natural texture without too much fuss. And if your hair is on the shorter side, a small barrel brush is your go-to. It’s ideal for creating tight curls, or you can use a straightening brush to add volume and smoothness for a polished look.

Frequently Asked Questions

What’s the best way to pick a hair dryer brush for my hair type?

When it comes to choosing a hair dryer brush, first consider your hair type, whether it’s thick or thin. Then, consider the hairstyle you prefer. Once you know these specifics, you can choose the right hair dryer brush to meet your needs.

Can I use a hair dryer brush on damp hair?

Generally, it’s not suggested to apply heat directly to sopping wet hair. We suggest using a towel to dry your hair a bit and then letting it air dry a bit longer to avoid extra exposure to heat and reduce potential heat damage to your hair. This is what I do!
