How to Stay Stylish During a Hike
As the weather begins to change for the better, there is no better time to begin exploring the great outdoors. This might be an activity you do as a family, as a couple, or solo (for me it’s as a couple). It can be great for your mental and physical health, too, but you might find yourself losing interest when you need to dress practically instead of fashionably.
This doesn’t have to be the case though! You can choose stylish clothing when you are heading out on a hike, and the best pieces will be functional as well as aesthetic. To learn how to stay stylish on your next hiking adventure, read the four tips listed below. I know this is a little different to my usual fashion content, but so many of you enjoy exercise and outdoor activities, and it doesn’t mean you have to forgo looking good, just because you’re outdoors.
Utilize Several Layers
When hiking, the temperature and weather can change quite quickly. With this in mind, you should choose layers that are functional and can be carried easily when you get too warm. This does not mean you cannot be stylish with your choices, though. You could choose a suitable base layer, like thermal tops and leggings, and layer a few favorites from your wardrobe on top. This could be a pair of cargo pants (they’re trending right now) and a nice shirt.
Alternatively, if you have proper hiking gear, then you might choose a zip-up fleece jacket and shorts over your thermals. A flannel shirt is also a good choice as it is not overly thick and can be tied around your waist easily. In some weathers, you will need to finish the look off with waterproof clothes and hiking boots, but there are plenty of colorful options to choose from if that’s the case. Something like a purple or pink rain coat would be so much fun!
Choose Practical Accessories
Pairing your clothes with the right accessories will instantly make you appear more fashionable, and it won’t break the bank. You should avoid wearing jewellery as these items can get lost or get caught in long grass and underbrush as you walk, and this could add unnecessary stress.
Instead, you should look for practical accessories, like scarves and sunglasses, that will improve your experience. A thick scarf will ensure you stay cosy if it’s chilly, while sunglasses are useful to avoid squinting when it’s sunny. These accessories can be chosen or even tailored to match your personal style.
And, if you want to be sustainable as well as practical, then Ambler hats and toques are good options to consider for your next hiking adventure. These wool items are ethically made in Nepal for people that enjoy spending time outside in nature. Not only that, but they are well-designed and will keep you warm during cold spells on your hike.
Play with Different Prints
Another way to add a little extra style to your hiking outfit is to play around with the prints in your wardrobe. Of course, you do not want to go overboard with this, so you might choose a printed top with solid-coloured trousers, or vice versa. This will add a little bit of colour to your outfit, and there are numerous prints to choose from; in fact, there are some nature-inspired prints that would suit a hiking trip perfectly.
Right now, an outfit that springs to mind would be some camo trousers for the print, and a plain top to counter balance it. If you prefer something a little more feminine and it’s warmer out, I would go with a pastel floral pattern, you can’t go wrong with that.
Pair Hiking Boots with Fun Socks
Hiking boots, although briefly mentioned before, are one of the most important aspects when you are walking on tough terrain. Both your boots and your socks should fit you well, be durable and waterproof. The boots must have sturdy soles with the right cushioning, but there are numerous style options you can go for. There are even hiking shoes that will sit below or at your ankle instead of boots that rise above your ankle.
But you should embrace the fun by choosing bright and colourful socks. These socks should be at least one or two inches above the top of your boots to ensure they do not slip down during your trek; this will protect you against abrasions as well as insect bites. Try to inject some of your personality into the socks you wear as that will make it more fun. If you love puppies, why not pick some with little dog designs?
To conclude, there are numerous ways to bring a little bit of style to your hiking outfit on your next adventure. The four tips mentioned in this post, including layering up, accessorising practically, playing around with prints, and pairing hiking boots with bright socks, are simple but effective. What do you do?
