Californian Chic

I have always loved that Californian Chic style that celebs like Nicole Richie rock all the time. I like the baggy jeans with loose tank tops and lots of ethnic style jewellery but I never thought it would work for me. I have had these flared Rich & Skinny jeans for about a year and I have never worn them until now. I always put them aside thinking they just don’t work for my body shape (I don’t have long legs and I am more curvy than really skinny).

These jeans were always really long so I thought why don’t I try them with my Topshop wedges seeing as they are really high and I was actually suprised they worked on me with these shoes. The wedges are about 5 inches high so seeing as the jeans cover the wedges and give the illusion of having longer slimmer legs I think I finally found a way of pulling off the look. Pairing the jeans and shoes with a loose white Warehouse tank top, Rayban Aviators and lots of rings, an ethnic cuff and necklaces really sets it off so I hope I pulled off that Californian style I was going for 🙂

Thankfully the weather has been amazingly hot the past couple of days! That really helps. It’s hit 28 Celsius today which is the hottest day of the year so far! Normally we never go past 21 Celsius here haha. Instead of going to see Iron Man 2 this weekend I went for a picnic in the park as it was so hot. I definitely couldn’t stay in these jeans for longer than half an hour though! It was roasting! Shorts were needed!

I have more photos to come later in the week of that 🙂

Love these jeans!! You do have the body type to pull off the flare, truly! And I ADORE the raybans!

Thank you Sarah!! That’s great to know you think I can 😀 I recently fell in love with Raybans too, I already want another pair lol! I love the Cockpit style 🙂

I have the wayfarers(but who doesn’t these days), and I just bought a pair of aviators. The aviators are slowly becoming my favorite!

I dont think I’ve seen the cockpit style, do you know the style number?

So I think those are the ones I just bought! Regular aviators are too big on my face, and give me that sad puppy look. You should get them!

Oh nice 🙂 I tried them on in the store and they looked good but I can’t afford them yet lol 🙁

I love this look! I am an older gal (40, agh!) so sometimes some of the looks I see posted here and on denimblog seem a little young for someone like me…but this is a look I’ve always been comfortable with and I’m only 5’4″! Even with flip flops the flares always work, in my opinion! But thanks to your blogs and jean reviews I’ve finally gotten with the times and I got myself a pair of work custom viper skinnies and even a pair of j brand jeggings! Thanks for posting so many different looks, it has encouraged me to branch out!

Thank you Jen 🙂 That’s really kind of you to say that, it’s nice to know my reviews and posts are appreciated by others. That’s great you got some J Brand denim leggings and Work Custom skinnies! They are both hot 😀 I’m sure you look fantastic in them! I find it doesn’t matter what age you are really, as long as what you are wearing suits you and flatters you then that’s what counts! Which wash on the J Brand’s did you get?

I got the J Brand’s in sable…I found a “worn-once” pair for cheap on Ebay and figured it was a message from the universe to try them and they are sooooo comfy! Definitely require a longer top, though, or I feel a little shrink-wrapped. I have the Work Custom skinnies in Osaka so they are dark, so I have a few different options – and after all the raving I’ve seen on your site, I’m giving the Dylan George Lucy a try, they are coming in the mail, I’m so excited! They aren’t the really distressed ones, though. The super-ripped style doesn’t really work for me bc I wear jeans to work almost everyday, so there are limits!

Oh Sable is very pretty! That’s great you found them cheap, ebay always has some great deals on authentic stuff 🙂 You will love the Lucy’s, are they the ones in Czar?

Hi Lorna, I got my Lucy’s and they are fun! I was sort of on the fence about them, but I wore them out last night and I actually got several compliments! They are definitely comfortable. They are the old castle wash – just a few distressed spots. I do like the wash, I think it looks pretty authentic (can anyone come close to AG with that, though?). Bad fading and distressing is a real pet peeve of mine, ick! Thanks for the recommendation!

    • June 5, 2010 / 6:51 pm

I haven’t tried the old castle wash before, I only have the Lucy in Czar but I love so many of the other washes in that cut 🙂 I’m glad you like them! Bad washes and distressing that looks fake is something I hate as well, that’s why I will only wear premium but even then, sometimes they end up looking bad lol! PRPS, some Diesel and a couple of other brands have really nice distressing, close to AG but then you do have to pay the higher price tag unfortunately 🙁 Especially PRPS, they cost a tonne!
