50 Shades Of Various Greys

lorna-burford-top-uk-fashion-style-blogger

Grey skinny jeans, a cropped top and a longline sleeveless jacket…

I titled this post around 50 Shades of Grey, not only because I’m excited to watch the movie very soon after reading the books, but also because I have become slightly addicted to grey lately, much to Adam’s delight! Ha ha. I’ve actually ended up buying a few various pieces in different shades of grey and I love them. I find grey to be so versatile, it’s like an alternative to black which is less harsh on my paler skin tone, so you can expect to be seeing more grey in my outfit posts.

One of my favourite grey pieces I own right now are these Citizens of Humanity Rocket skinny jeans in London Calling. I adore these jeans as the Rocket is my favourite cut (similar here) and the grey distressed wash is gorgeous! You can read my review on these jeans over at The Jeans Blog. I paired my jeans with a Topshop Cropped Grey Top and then layered over my Topshop Longline Sleeveless Ponte Jacket in Grey. I bought this jacket in the Oxford Circus flagship store when I was in London in December and I can’t get enough of it, I even own it in navy too! It does run big though so I sized down to a 4 for a slimmer fit. I finished my look off with my Christian Louboutin Pigalle 100 in Black, a Topshop Aztec Necklace, some different pearl bracelets and finally, a subtle pink lip as red was too bold for the style.

It was really cold shooting these photos on the weekend down by the farm in the country lanes, it actually got really windy at one point and like some of you asked on my Instagram, I did have a coat with me, so I wasn’t always dressed like this! I’m not that crazy! I do like to keep warm and healthy, but the outfit looked much better without the coat for the photos and this is how I would have worn it if it wasn’t the middle of Winter. I hope you like the new look that I’m giving my blog with more professional looking photos, more sleeker outfits and I’m still working on the new blog layout, which will be soon! I’d love to know what you style bloggers and readers think of my outfit as always, reading your comments makes me smile!

Usually I don’t like to go to monochromatic…but, isn’t it amazing how good different shades of grey go? Haha I actually figured this out for myself too 🙂 The key definitely is to keep the contrast in the variety of items you are pairing together (and the shades of course), and I love how you did it! I was thinking about my grey Citizens of Humanity Avedons in Chromatic before I saw you were wearing CoH too 🙂 Awesome look Lorna! Saving this for outfit ideas later!

Thank you Lana 🙂 Yeah, it’s important to keep the shades and textures different so they don’t blend 🙂

I’ve been a huge fan of grey for the longest time. I personally think it’s a very versatile colour and easily paired with many other colours. Love your outfit here, very casual and stylish.

I read the first 50 Shades book a couple of years ago. Whilst it’s not quite the worst novel that I’ve ever put onto my kindle it didn’t tempt me into reading the rest of the series and I quickly reverted back to my usual diet sci-fi. LOL

It’s a lovely outfit that you’re wearing and proof that grey is as bright and cheery a colour as any other. 🙂

I never actually liked the first book very much, the ending kinda left a bad taste in my mouth and I was quite horrified by some of it, however the 2nd and 3rd books were so much better, they definitely made the series good for me 🙂 Thank you! Glad you like the outfit!

A huge thanks to you as I picked up my first pair of Citizens Rocket skinny jeans in black about two weeks ago. I was originally in the dressing room trying on some Paige denim that did not work out for me at all, and right when I was about to give up, I asked the saleswoman to bring me a pair of Citizens in my size. Sure enough as soon as I slipped them on, I had found my new favourite pair of denim. I understand the hype over them, the cut and the fit is PERFECTION.
Where did I get the idea for these jeans? Your blog. Sure I have seen them around on other bloggers and models alike but it was a bit of a “Lorna push” that got me to just try them. So thank you. Thank you. Thank you.
Quick question- do the different washes of these jeans all fit so perfectly? I’m heading down to the states in just over a week and know that I will be doing shopping. Just wondering if I should look into grabbing these in every wash possible.

Hi! Oh I’m so glad you like them! Aren’t they amazing?! I have about 4 pairs now! They do fit differently in washes, for example my black pair in Axel are super stretchy and more legging style where as these London Calling jeans are a bit more stiffer and thicker, but the fit stays the same, just some are a little tighter than others based on the denim. You should definitely pick up some more washes as you will live in them! This London Calling wash is awesome, Crispy and Byron Bay are nice blues too! Let me know if you need any help with them! Have you posted them on your blog yet?

      • February 6, 2015 / 10:34 pm

They are absolutely, totally amazing! My pair is in Axel which I am loving and I really love how they do fit like leggings! My thoughts exactly. I definitely will have to try some other washes. I don’t mind if they feel a bit thicker, I think for me it is most important that denim keeps its shape throughout each wear. I know that some of my J.Brand jeans lose shape easily but these are just exactly what I had been looking for. I haven’t had a chance yet to share my Citizens or my Hudson denim on my blog- perhaps I will have to put together a post on my favourite jeans. Thank you again for your help, take care!

Yeah J Brand do lose shape easily, I’m not a huge fan if I’m honest! The Axel Rockets though haven’t stretched our or lost shape and I have worn them loads!
