A Golden Hour Photoshoot In The Snow
Happy Monday everyone! The days just seem to fly by and we’ve already gone mid way through February, it’s madness. As I mentioned in my previous Valentine’s Day outfit, Adam and I had simple and easy plans to celebrate, and that’s what we did. As always with me though, it didn’t turn out quite as we hoped, ha ha. I had woken up with a migraine so had to take Nurofen Plus, which gives me stomach ache. We were almost late to our booking at Cosy Club, the food had issues as the waitress had tipped my chips all over the table and in my drink, then the mayonnaise was full of water. It was quite awkward, but oddly the food this time gave us both stomach ache, which doesn’t usually happen, so walking around town to walk that off was interesting, then my headache started coming back so I needed more Nurofen.
We headed into a few shops, went to Swoon the gelato shop like we wanted, browsed the furniture, then went to the pet shop to get some nuts, however the pet shop was not there… Apparently it’s closed now, so we were walking about trying to get nuts to feed the animals at the park. We eventually found some, and then arrived at the park near dusk so almost all the animals had gone to bed, ha ha. We managed to see two squirrels though and a couple of magpies, but we scattered some nuts all around anyway for the morning when they wake up. By the evening at home, my head was so bad I had to have my sleep mask on to avoid any light so we didn’t get to watch Letters To Juliet like we wanted, so had to save it for the next day, after working and doing photoshoots. Besides all this, I still had a lovely day and spending quality time with Adam is ideal, without any work to be done. I feel like we should make it more of a regular thing!
I also realised that having fun is all in the mindset. In years past I would have been so upset about everything going wrong that I would have thought it ruined the entire day, but as I am now, I don’t let things put a dampener on my day. Yes many things went wrong, yes my head and stomach hurt a lot, but it doesn’t detract anything away from the overall point of the day, so if that’s one tip I can pass on to you, find the positive in any bad situation and don’t dwell on it. More negativity in your mind only makes things worse from then on out. I could look at everything that happened as an awful let down, ruining the day, but I’m alive, we still did pretty much most of the things we wanted, I spent all the time with Adam, didn’t have to work etc. so it’s a positive to me!
Anyway, enough of that, I’m sure you’re here for the outfit, so what I was wearing was my L’AGENCE Margot Skinny Jeans in Graphite (told you I live in these!) with my Topshop Grey Cropped Jumper, an ASOS Western Belt, my Pretty Little Thing Grey Cardigan, and my Rockfish Navy Gloss Wellies. I didn’t really want to have the wellies with this outfit as the look is quite edgy and dressy at the same time, but because of the snow, I was mostly wearing them the entire time so I thought I would keep it natural and do a couple of full length shots as well so you can see the look entirely. I actually liked it quite a lot with the wellies to be honest, it was different and unique, plus I think the navy complemented the subtle blue tones in the greys!
Of course we shot these photos when it was snowing a few weeks ago and the sun was setting through the trees so there was the most gorgeous orange sunset coming through, highlighting me. It wasn’t intentional actually either, I’d just wanted to do the photos there and the sun started to glow, so that was a serious stroke of luck! After taking them, Adam wanted to do his there but unfortunately it had set so the glow had gone, you literally only get a few minutes of that golden hour! I know this may not be the most sensible outfit for snow, but much like my Sequins In The Snow blog post, I love wearing contrasting looks against such a Wintry background. Anyway, this blog post is getting rather long so please do let me know what you think of the outfit and the photos! Lorna xx.

Thank you so much, John!
Very casual and simple look but with personality to it. I like the wellies, I’ve been trying to find some for literally two years and now winter is almost over so they’re gonna have to wait until next fall but those are really pretty, I love the colour.

Thank you so much! Oh I definitely recommend Rockfish, so comfortable!
What a lovely outfit! I like the greys together! I’m sorry your Valentine’s day didn’t turn out like you hoped, but it’s nice you both got to spend some time together and do some of the things you wanted to!
Hope that you had a great weekend 🙂 I just posted my weekday wear linkup, I’d love you to join! 🙂

Sorry to hear about your migraine Lorna, what a shame – but how lovely you’ve developed such a good mindset for this not to interfere with your happiness! 🙂 You look lovely here by the way; snow princess!

Hi Lorna, I’m glad that you and Adam had a nice time together despite the problems you describe.
Our only complaint was that last week we had the coldest summer ever haha (you would have definitely felt warm with that outfit though 🙂 ), now I think everything’s going back to normal…Autumn maybe…
About the photos and the outfit: I was hoping you would post again some photos with warm colours so I was glad to see this post 🙂 Very beautiful tones. My eyes were mostly fixed on the jeans though ….they look so well on you and match the jumper and the cardigan so nicely. Another thing that I find quite appropriate for this shooting is the way your hair is in motion: this adds dynamics and…um, more vitality to the photoset.

Thank you, Steven! So happy you liked it all, and yeah the wind was blowing in my favour this time, usually it makes my hair a complete mess, ha ha!
ha ha, so you had a “windy” support out there! Did a good job 😉 For some completely non-logical reason my guess was that Adam was holding a hair-dryer with one hand which actually hardly makes any sense in the open LOL!
Author
Ha ha! I don’t even know where he could plug that in to get the power! Not to mention he would have melted all the snow 😀 Least I would have been warm though!
The lighting is incredible! And you look pretty, the fit of the jeans is perfect on you.

Ha ha, it wasn’t too bad!
Smart words, Lorna. Because fun can be had in most situations if we have the right perspective. And it’s so refreshing when people do….the negative only gets everyone down.
As for you…you are superwoman. Standing out there in the snow like that!! Wowza

Sorry to read that Valentine’s Day didn’t quite go to plan but it’s lovely that you are so relaxed and philosophical about it. 🙂 Mind you, I bet that poor waitress must’ve felt so mortified and embarrassed… it’s just about the last day of the year she’d ever want to mess up like that, I imagine.
I absolutely love this outfit and look… it’s so cool (in every sense of the word). I really like the rather rebellious feel to it that wearing that cropped jumper out in the snow gives… weather defying for sure. 😀 As ever the jeans look amazing and fit you perfectly. Are they the same jeans as in the other two recent shoots? I’m just slightly confused that you’ve called them “shadow” here but they were “graphite” previously but they look the same. Love them either way. 🙂 That’s a nice flash of blue from the wellies. The whole outfit is a great combination of winter colours mixed together in a bit of an unconventional way and it works so well. 🙂
Author
Ha ha, lets just call that a momentary brain lapse! I have a pair from another brand in Shadow and I accidentally messed up the names! Thanks for pointing that out. I’ve corrected it, these are the Graphite jeans 🙂
I’m so glad you love the whole outfit and the photos! You’ve picked up on a lot of things that I intended to create from this shoot, which makes me so happy! I love it when people notice the details 😀 Thank you, Steven!
Hey, you’re welcome. 🙂 If nothing else it’s just more proof that I actually read every word when I come here. 😀 LOL
With the caveat that I still have some of your January entries that I’m yet to read, I think this outfit and the “sequins in the snow” outfit are my two clear favourites for this year so far. 🙂
Author
Oh really? Sequins in the snow is definitely one of my favourites! 😀
These images are so striking and beautiful Lorna. It must have been hard to brave the cold like that, and if it were me, I know I would be struggling to do so in that kind of discomfort. Amazingly you managed not only to capture the images, but to look serene and calm at the same time! I think these images go beyond simple outfit pictures, and you’ve delivered a real fashion story, and evoked a mood. I love to see that!
It’s always disappointing when we try to plan an event perfectly, and things don’t work out the way we had hoped. But your determination to be positive, despite the setbacks, is a great thing, and also a wonderful message for your readers.
Lots of love Saba xx

Thank you, Saba! I’m really happy you like the photos, and I think you’re right, they do capture a mood and a story as well. Which I love doing! And I am glad that I was able to spread some positivity to you as well xx.
Thank you so much for reading and replying Lorna! The pictures are timeless and lovely. Xx
