Alexander McQueen Oversized Trainers Sneakers Review
I’m doing a review on the Alexander McQueen Oversized Trainers that have been popular for a while now! It’s a style that has been out for years, but is very much catching on in the trend department at the moment, and with good reason too! They’re a white smooth calf leather, lace-up sneaker, trimmed with metallic heel detailing. You might remember them as they’re the sneakers that had the iridescent back that everyone loved last year! I’ve done a review on everything about these shoes! So read below and check out the photos to see what I think! Let me know in the comments too if you have any questions, plus you can check out all of the places to buy these online at LuisaViaRoma, NET-A-PORTER, My Theresa and Matches, or by them directly at Alexander McQueen!
The Design
I had been attracted to the look of a sturdy, bright white, designer sneaker for a long time, but I hadn’t come across one that I thought was cool, until I saw these. I love the fact that they combine an old Adidas vibe, with a current, trendy look. There’s a chunkiness to them as they’re oversized in style, which makes these Alexander McQueen trainers just amazing to look at. As you can see, they’re incredibly eye catching and what drew me to them in the first place was the different coloured backs that you can get. It’s such a unique feature and one that I think makes them stand out from all the rest! The rounded toe and thick laces remind me of the 90’s or early 2000’s in a way, but with a much more modern take. They’re structured, really stiff so that they don’t lose their shape, and will keep that look for the duration of their lifetime I believe. It’s also one of those designs that goes with everything, including jeans, shorts, skirts, and dresses! They’re so versatile! I think the minimal branding of the little logo on the back and tongue is ideal too, it’s not over the top!

The Size
For my size, I’m usually between a 39 and 40, depending on the brand and depending on the country. If it’s US style shoes, I’m a 39, but if it’s European, I’m generally a 40. I went with a 40 (UK 7) as Alexander McQueen is a British brand and these shoes are made in Italy, so I figured they would run a little smaller, and I was right. The size 40 actually fits me perfectly all over and I couldn’t have sized down or up. I read a few comments online and some people had said they run small or they run big, but they don’t, they definitely run true to size for me! Go with your standard designer shoe size. If it helps, they run about the same as Balenciaga Race Runners!
The Leather
As I just mentioned, these trainers are made in Italy from 100% calfskin, and they have that lovely smell to them when you get them out of the box (the box is also incredible). It’s a really smooth leather without any grain or texture to it, as you can see in the photos, and the sole of the shoe is rubber, so it makes it very comfortable to walk on. The back of the shoe is also leather, but this does have the textured look to it and has been dyed with metallic leather dye, so they’re truly stunning! I can’t fault the quality here as it seems amazing!
The Colour
When I was deciding what colour to go for in these Alexander McQueen Oversized Trainers, I couldn’t narrow it down for a couple of weeks as I had my eye on the Black (which I had originally wanted), the Rose Gold, or the Pewter. I eventually settled on the Pewter as you can see here and I think it was the best option I could have gone for! The Black was in a suede, so it was quite intense and dark, and the Rose Gold just seems to be a little too feminine or young, whereas the Pewter is stylish and classy, while offering enough of an edge to the shoe to make them fun. There are so many colours to choose from though including blue, red, pink, purple, glitters, dip dye, all white etc… so there really is a pair for everyone! I recommend Pewter though, I really do!
The Comfort
Usually, for those of you who know me or read my reviews often, my feet are very sensitive and blister easily and I don’t like wearing shoes which cause any discomfort. I was apprehensive about these to begin with as I’d read online that some people said the toe box digs into their feet, the tongue presses into the front of the ankle, and they were stiff, and these were very valid concerns for me. I decided to give them a go though and just see if they would hurt, but thankfully they don’t! A pair of designer trainers that actually don’t hurt! Sure I can feel the tongue against the front of my ankle as it’s a longer design, but it’s soft enough so that it doesn’t rub or cause any pain there. Sure I can feel the area inside where the toe box meets the laces on my left foot when I walk fast, but that’s because the shoe doesn’t bend or crease up so that it doesn’t lose shape. It’s not painful and at the most I would say a mild discomfort sometimes, but otherwise you can’t feel it. They’re comfortable to walk in, I didn’t even wear socks, and the back of the heel is padded with a super soft leather so there wasn’t even any rubbing, blisters or friction! I wore them for walking about in for over 4 hours, and was incredibly surprised! Definitely comfortable!
The Price & Quality
When it comes to designer shoes, the standard price is a starting point of around £300 and then it goes upwards, and I would say between £300-£400 seems to be the normal average for trainers, which is why I think Alexander McQueen got it right as these cost £360. There are many shops in the US though that charge a lot more because like I said above, it’s a UK brand and there’s import and customs fees which get added on top, but if you’re in Europe or here in the UK like me, it’s £360 for these ones! The quality is also amazing as the leather is beautiful, they’re so well made, the stitching is neat and perfect, and they really look like they’re made to last as they’re an incredibly sturdy shoe which doesn’t appear to lose its shape.
Overall Opinion
As you can probably tell, my opinion in this Alexander McQueen Oversized Trainers review is really high! I probably give these shoes 9.5 out of 10! The only part that lets them down there is the tongue being a bit longer (but it’s not uncomfortable or painful) and the toe box pressing a bit if I walk fast (not painful) but other than that, everything about them is perfect. The shape, the design, the colour combination of bright white and Pewter, the thick laces, the sturdiness, the quality of the leather, the rubber sole, the comfort, the fact I can wear them without socks, how versatile they are for lots of outfits etc… There’s so many plus points. If you’re looking for a designer trainer in a white, look no further, honestly! I recommend these to you! And this is not sponsored, I purchased these shoes myself from LuisaViaRoma and have no affiliation with the brand, so it’s a genuine, honest review! What do you think of them? It will be great to have your opinions if you own them too!
I have worn these twice already, so here is a look at one of the outfits below!

It’s $450.24 in American money. A little too steep for me. Cute shoes. Hoping the price wll drop eventually. But for oversize shoe, they look anazing

Yeah, it’s a designer brand, so considering that, it’s at the lower price point, compared to Gucci, Balenciaga etc. I’m sure some of them go in the sale because some are seasonal. I had a £100 voucher for Luisaviaroma which helped a lot!
I tried these on last weekend. Loved the look! But they kinda come off from the back when I walk and when I go half a size down, a bit too tight. Have you encountered this issue? They also rub on my ankle bone a bit so they gave me insoles to solve that.. it worked.. but that bit when they come off when I walk, make them seem like they are a tad too big..

Hi! Mine do slip a bit at the back, but not much. I tend to wear my laces loser though and not tied up, so I’m used to that feeling. I have no issues with the tongue or the ankles rubbing or anything. I hope you’re able to get comfortable in yours! 🙂
Sounds like a lovely sneaker. I love a pair of white sneaker for spring and summer time.

I am a firm US size 8. Usually EU 39. Should I go with the 39, ie, do they fit as expected?
Author
Hi, I mentioned in the review above that they run very true to size for Italian or French branded shoes. In US brand shoes I am a true 39, but in European brand shoes, I am a 40, so if you know your size in European shoes, stick with that! Hope that helps!
I love the look of them! They look great, clean and classy, especially with the “oversized” sneaker trend. I have been eyeing them myself and they are very comfortable.

Glad you like them too! Yes! They are really classy for a sneaker, I love it!
I was in a shop yesterday and tried 36 I’m usually size 3. They were a good bit too big so I tried 35, I would never be a 2 in any shoe but figured they ran big. They were a bit too small and had no 35.5 in any colour. I ordered 35.5 online so I hope they fit. I’m definitely usually a 3 . I love the look can’t wait for them to arrive Monday they better fit !!😀
Author
Good luck! I hope they fit you! Let me know 😀
they didnt fit!!! all I can think is the size i tied on in the shop were labelled incorrectly, anyway size 3 should be with me Tuesday, cant wait, wish I’d had the summer to enjoy them but they’ll be great for next summer

Oh no! That’s such a shame!!!!
Lovely review, I am considering buying a pair. How wide are the shoelaces, please? Do they keep shape nicely while wearing?Thank you.
Author
Hi, the laces are pretty thick, I would say they are at least a CM in width, probably bigger, I haven’t measured them though. The shoes themself are very stiff so they hold their shape well, no creasing or bending. The laces only come a little loose at the top if they are not tied up. Hope that helps! If you do buy, doing it via my links would be incredibly helpful! Thank you!
Hi I bought the exact same ones but the shiny part on the back is rubbing away and I only bought them a month ago. I love the style and fit but I wish there was a way to get the shine back.
Author
Oh that’s a shame it’s rubbing off!
Alexander McQueen gave me a 2 year warranty or something like that, so you should look into that! 🙂
I’m not sure on buying these please could you help me because I have read all of these comments and I’m not sure on my sizing could you help me in this department please xx
Author
Hi Zoe, I took my normal size in these, they run very true to size.
I have the same issue with mine! Also the insides are fading away weirdly from where the tongue of the shoe is rubbing against the insides.
Author
Oh really? What do you mean?
Hi I just ordered these online neon color in men’s size 40 is that the same in the women’s size 40 of Alexander McQueen
Author
Hi! I think so, I do think size 40 European is the same size across both genders. Let me know!
My Alexander McQueen sneakers soles are turning yellow,I need help please

There’s a lot of youtube videos and advice online on how to fix that on sneakers!
Great review. Did the pewter transfer/rub off over time?
Author
I haven’t worn them everyday, and I take care of my shoes, so no, nothing has rubbed off!
Hi question are they heavy or light weight..im planning to buy and i dont want wearing heavy shoes ,i dont like the feel addidas superstar which is heavy for me..i really like this shoe and been planning to buy but hesitant hehe appreciate if you answer thnx
Author
Hi! I would say they are medium weight. They aren’t heavy like the Fila Disruptor or like a Doc Marten or something, but they are heavier than a sports shoe, as they’re quite sturdy. I don’t own the Adidas Superstar, I have a pair of Adidas similar and I don’t find them heavy, so if those are heavy for you, these would be too.
