4 Month Update Using Topical Spironolactone From Uncouth

Uncouth Skincare 4 Month Acne Review

As you guys know, from my previous post on clearing my hormonal acne – my experience with Uncouth that I shared back in January, I am now in the 4 month mark of my treatment, so it’s time to give you all an update on how everything is going.

I explained to you before that I was super excited when I found Uncouth online, as Uncouth is a personalised, prescription skincare brand (founded by a dermatology doctor) that compounds bespoke formulas using ingredients that you would only be able to get from a private dermatologist: like Tretinoin for anti-ageing, Hydroquinone for melasma, and of course, Spironolactone for hormonal breakouts. This is why I chose to go with Uncouth as they are the only UK supplier of topical Spironolactone.

My personal formula is made up of Tranexamic acid: 4% and Spironolactone: 5%, and as I mentioned before, each bottle of this cream lasts one month, but the non-Spironolactone formulas are 30mls and they last 2 months. Since I suffer from Poly Cystic Ovary Syndrome, my testosterone levels are too high, and it often causes me to break out in uncontrollable acne, as you saw in the previous post. At the moment, off of the birth control, my hormones have been going crazy and my testosterone is actually the highest it’s ever been for me, which is not good. I’ve been getting acne all over my shoulders and back, where I didn’t really suffer that badly before (just mildly).

I think the Spironolcatnone is working purely because the breakouts on my face have been much less. I’ve had a couple of episodes where I’ve broken out with a bunch of new spots, one episode was all around my chin, and the other newer episode is on my right cheek. Comparing this to the acne before and how it used to breakout though is significantly less! I used to break out on my cheeks, jaw, chin and upper lip all the time, hence why I have so many red marks and scars. I’m really glad that I’m using this cream because I think if I wasn’t, my face would be breaking out like my back and shoulders are and I can’t go through that again, ever!

Regarding the hyperpigmentation that I have from the left over acne marks, I don’t think the Tranexamic Acid alone in this cream is working well enough, so for the last 3 weeks I have been adding in 15-20% Azelaic Acid, which I’ve noticed is working quite well in combination. My skin seems less red and the marks are fading quicker. Key areas to note are the 3 dots to the side of my eye in the right images. Since I do keep popping up with random spots now and again, I do have new red marks, so it does make it difficult sometimes trying to see the improvements, as new ones do show up in similar places. The photos really help me to keep track of that and see the progress. I’m interested if you can see the difference and the progress as well?

I have shared my new photos above, and I’m including my starting point photos below, which were taken in November 2024. I can definitely see improvements in certain areas! I hope you can too!

So if any of you are struggling with hormonal acne, I 100% recommend Uncouth to you and the use of this topical Spironolactone formula! If you have other concerns like hyperpigmentation or ageing etc., they also have other active ingredients that are prescribed for you by a dermatologist too. Plus, I’ve had a wonderful experience with their customer service as I’m thinking about using a stronger cream for the red marks. I will keep you updated at around the 6 month mark!

*My disclaimer for this post is that I started out by buying the product myself, and was so impressed with it that I reached out to Uncouth for a collaboration. This is not gifted or paid for, but they did offer me a discount on the product, for total clarification, so everything I have shared here is completely honest (as always) and my genuine review. I can’t wait to update you in a couple of months time!

You can clearly see the progress. It’s made quite a difference for you. 🙂 So happy for you that you have found something that is working for you. Hope the changes you have made help further. 🤞 Is it just for faces or could you use it on your shoulders and back too? 🤔

You know, I might try it on my back after I Google if that’s ok!
