Glamour at Home – Decorating Tips for the Fashion-Devoted

In a world where personal style is not just a preference but a way of life, it’s only natural to want your living space to reflect your passion for fashion. Your home is essentially your personal canvas, waiting to be adorned with the same chic flair that graces the runways. This is something I have been getting more and more into lately as I love interior design.

So, how do you infuse glamour into every corner of your wonderful home? I’m going to share some decorating tips with you that are tailor-made for the fashion-devoted like us.

  1. Closet Chic: Turn Your Wardrobe into Art

Why hide your most coveted pieces behind closed doors when you can turn your closet into a captivating display? Invest in open shelving, elegant clothing racks, and perhaps even a vintage mannequin to showcase your favourite pieces. Not only does this add a touch of boutique-style glamour to your space, but it also makes getting dressed a daily delight. I had always wanted a walk in wardrobe, and I have something similar to that now with my own creation of open wardrobe units and shelves.

  1. Colour Palette Couture: Choose Your Hues Wisely

Just like crafting a perfect outfit, selecting the right colour palette for your home sets the tone. For a fashion-forward space, consider a palette that mirrors your wardrobe’s aesthetic. Classic neutrals, bold monochromes, or even a carefully curated mix of trendy hues can transform your space into a style haven. For me, that’s a combination of beige, brown, cream, dusky pinks etc. They all work together and it’s important to colour co-ordinate so that you have a very visually appealing rail of clothes to look at.

  1. Furniture as Runway Stars: Invest in Statement Pieces

Your furniture doesn’t just serve a functional purpose; it should be a work of art in itself. Invest in statement pieces that capture attention and reflect your unique taste. A sleek designer sofa, an avant-garde coffee table, or a chic accent chair can be the runway stars of your living room. Something that speaks to you and is a focal point of the room can be really cool.

  1. Mirror, Mirror on the Wall: Reflect Glamour and Light

Mirrors aren’t just for checking your reflection; they’re also magical tools for enhancing light and creating the illusion of space. Choose mirrors with stylish frames to add a touch of glamour to your walls. Position them strategically to reflect natural light and make your space feel more open and inviting. I know my bedroom looked much smaller and closed up before I installed my huge mirror on the wall.

  1. Luxurious Textures: Velvet, Fur, and Metallics, Oh My!

When it comes to textures, think beyond the ordinary. Introduce luxurious materials like velvet, faux fur, and metallic finishes to add a layer of opulence to your surroundings. A velvet sofa or a faux fur throw draped over a chair can bring a sense of glamour that transcends the everyday. I have had my eye on a velvet ottoman style bed for some time now!

  1. Art that Speaks Fashion: Decorate with Style-Inspired Artwork

Fashion is an art form, and your home should reflect that. Adorn your walls with artwork inspired by the world of fashion. Prints of iconic runway moments, fashion sketches, or even abstract pieces that evoke the spirit of style can turn your space into a gallery of glamour. These can be ideal in your closet, or in any room you so wish!

  1. Doorway Drama: Elevate Your Entryways

Every fashionable home should make a statement from the moment you step through the door. Consider upgrading your door furniture to create a striking first impression. Swap out standard doorknobs for chic handles or glamorous pulls that complement your overall design. For inspiration, why not view Corston’s door handles, which come in a wide array of styles?

You may not realise it but these seemingly small details can add a whole extra layer of sophistication to your entryways, setting the tone for the glamour that awaits inside. Even just adding a crystal style door knob to your closet doors can really elevate the whole vibe.

  1. Personalised Accents: Infuse Your Signature Style

Make your mark on your living space by incorporating personalised accents. From monogrammed throw pillows to custom artwork or even a gallery wall featuring your favourite fashion quotes or photos, these personal touches will make your home uniquely yours. Remember, it’s the details that truly define a fashion-forward space.

  1. Lighting Elegance: Choose Statement Fixtures

Lighting is the unsung hero of interior design. Opt for statement lighting fixtures that not only illuminate your space but also add a touch of elegance. Chandeliers, pendant lights, or even unique floor lamps can be the perfect finishing touch to your fashion-forward home. Don’t go to over board if you want to focus your attention on other statement pieces as balance is key. Just be sure that you have enough light.

  1. Shoe Display Extravaganza: Showcase Your Collection

For us fashion lovers with a shoe collection that we’re proud of, don’t hide them away! Turn your shoes into a visual feast by displaying them on stylish shelves or in glass cabinets. Your prized footwear becomes both a fashion statement and a unique piece of decor. I do this with my own shoes and my bag collection as well. Display them proudly, in a colour co-ordinated way, and they will look amazing!

  1. Mixing High and Low: Create an Eclectic Ensemble

Fashion is all about balance and unexpected combinations. Apply the same principle to your home decor by mixing high-end designer pieces with more affordable finds. This eclectic approach not only adds character to your space but also showcases your ability to curate a truly unique ensemble.

  1. Green Glam: Bring Nature Indoors with Plants

Don’t forget the power of greenery. Introduce eye-catching houseplants and flowers to your home for a touch of natural glamour. Elegant planters and vases can become stylish accessories, bringing life and freshness to your fashion-forward abode. I have some succulents in my windowsill and they really do add some calming beauty to the overall feel of the room.

In the end, creating a glamorous home for the fashion-devoted is about expressing your unique style in every detail. Whether it’s the choice of colours, the selection of furniture, or the placement of accessories, let your personal flair shine through. Your home should be a reflection of the stylish, confident, and fabulous individual that you are. So, go ahead – let the glamour begin!
