Moisturising Skincare Products To Treat Extremely Dry, Dull skin

Moisturising skincare products to treat extremely dry, dull skin

I don’t know about you, but as I get older, and especially when I travel and change climates, my skin has started to get a lot more dry. My skin used to be extremely oily, which also contributed to me suffering from acne, and then I slowly noticed that over time, it’s not as oily anymore.

This year in particular, I started noticing really dry patches around my chin and nose, as well as on my cheeks, which meant my perfect foundation routine was not sitting right anymore as I was using foundation for oily skin. I’ve switched things up to a much more hydrating foundation, which has helped a bit, but without the right base, it still looked patchy.

I’ve been on a journey this year after I started making changes to my skincare routine, as prep is absolutely everything! Of course the right face moisturizer is the key part to any skincare routine, and that’s what’s been one of the biggest helps, but I’ve also found that serums have been a game changer too, for dull and dry skin, especially when combined with intense moisturisers.

Why is your skin dry and dull?

I looked online to find out some various different reasons as to why I might have been suffering from dry skin, especially in the summer as it’s more of a winter thing, and I found some really useful information on the American Academy of Dermatology Association website, which I wanted to share with you:

Middle age or older: With age, your skin produces less sebum, and by your 40s, the amount of sebum your body makes drops dramatically. After 40, the amount of sebum your skin contains continues to drop. I am 36 at the moment, but I’ve already noticed a sebum reduction. Hormonal changes are also a key factor with age!

Certain medications: Extremely dry skin is a possible side effect of several medications, including statins and diuretics. So you may want to look at what you’re taking daily.

Low outdoor temperature: When the outdoor temperatures fall quite low, the air holds less moisture. This is why your skin gets drier in the wintertime. But I’ve also noticed that air con in the summertime takes away the moisture in the air as well, so it has the same drying effect.

Vitamin or mineral deficiency: Skin requires nutrients to keep it healthy as it’s the largest organ on the body. If you’re not getting enough vitamin D, vitamin A, niacin, zinc, or iron, you can develop excessively dry skin. This I did not know!

Smoking: An obvious one, but cigarettes contain harmful chemicals that speed up how quickly your skin ages, so skin becomes drier quicker.

And of course there are various health conditions that can affect the skin, including diabetes, thyroid disease, or specific skin complaints themselves. Once you have figured out the reason why your skin is dry, you can start solving the underlying cause, but you will want to topically treat it first and foremost. My skin has never looked better now with a combination of serums and intense moisturisers, so here are some to check out!

Clarins Rose Peptide face cream

This moisturiser is a 2-in-1! It’s anti-aging and glow-boosting, featuring peptide and pomegranate power! It’s designed to visibly lift, smooth, firm and plump, giving you youthful-looking skin with an age-defying rosy radiance. I love that! It even gives you an even skin tone, while using a plant based Anti-Pollution Complex to help protect your skin from indoor and outdoor pollution, including blue light from electronics! Something we all need in this day and age.

This dual-action day moisturizer replenishes mature skin affected by age-related hormonal changes that result in dullness, dryness, wrinkles, slackening, uneven skin tone, and loss of density—while boosting skin’s radiance with a rosy, age-defying glow.

Clarins’ exclusive Lift-Replenishing Duo—a blend of wrinkle-fighting Organic Harungana* extract, as effective as retinol¹ and gentle on the skin + visibly tightening Organic Gorse* extract—minimizes the appearance slackening and of loss of density related to hormonal deficiencies for a visibly smoother, firmer, plumper, more youthful-looking complexion.

Organic Desert Date* extract helps even skin tone. Organic Sea Lily* extract intensely hydrates for soft, smooth, comfortable skin. Vegetal Squalane extract nourishes, protects, and helps reinforce the skin’s hydrolipidic film to shield from external aggressors.

Clarins Precious Le Créme Riche Nourishing Cream

Now this one really caught my eye as a very luxurious face cream! It’s a velvet-rich face cream – infused with rare Moon Flower cryoextract, which is perfect to make your skin look firm, smooth, radiant, intensely nourished, and younger than its real age. I’ve learned that the key to eliminating dry and dull skin is really in the intensity of the moisturiser. This particular product is expensive, but I’ve heard many good things about it! Plus, I absolutely love the packaging!

CeraVe Moisturising Lotion For Dry Skin

You’ve probably heard of CeraVe before, but they have some affordable and simple products. This one in particular is the CeraVe Moisturising Lotion for Dry to Very Dry Skin. I personally use this and it’s a nourishing lotion for very dry skin that is suitable for people with psoriasis and atopic dermatitis as well, which is why Christen also uses it. It combines a ceramide combo that is the basis of CeraVe with the MVE Technology to ensure that there is a controlled release of the active ingredients.

This brand is backed by dermatologists and they make sure that the skin barrier is repaired, the skin is nourished and the moisturising ingredients have a slow release system that ensures that the skin is hydrated for up to 12 hours. It’s also approved by the National Eczema Association to be used on atopic skin. It’s a good all around cream for everyone.

Dermatica Nourishing Ceramide & Peptide Moisturiser

Lastly, this is one from dermatologists as well, the Nourishing Ceramide & Peptide moisturiser. I personally use this and have found it really gentle and hydrating on my skin. It’s a fragrance-free moisturiser that immediately hydrates and soothes dry skin. It houses a combination of ceramides and niacinamide to lock in moisture and repair the skin barrier, while the niacinamide also helps fade the appearance of dark spots. It’s a cream that brightens, softens and smooths skin and fine lines, while plumping, hydrating and protecting. If you need fragrance free, this is ideal too!

To round this up, we all get dry and dull skin at some point in our life, so it’s important to keep on top of this and keep it hydrated! Not only to create a perfect makeup base, but to ensure your skin is healthy with a healthy skin barrier. Using a really intensive moisturiser is the perfect way to do this, and as I said above, combining that with a hydrating serum or face oil before can double the hydration.
