Smart Wardrobe Budgeting: Style Meets Savings
Everything is so expensive these days. You go to the supermarket and start to feel depressed that the number of things you could have bought a year ago seems to have decreased for the same money, or now costs more. It costs more to fill your tank, more in taxes, and more in inflation, leaving less money in your pocket, and ultimately making you wonder what you’re doing in life.
For many of us, the first sacrifice we make is reducing the budget we might otherwise have put towards our fashion choices and opting for the cheapest possible items of clothing from the likes of Temu and Shein.
But, while it might seem that all is doom and gloom, with the right outlook on life, you can still save a little money without sacrificing too much. This post will take you on a journey of how to save money without sacrificing the way you look and, by proxy, the way you feel. After all, we all need to look good regardless of what sort of financial crashes may be imminent!
Using Discounts, Coupons, And Promotions Wisely
If there is one industry that really leans heavily into promotions and couponing, it has to be the fashion industry. I’m not saying that you are going to find a 50% off coupon on the Hermes website, but for most of us, it’s possible to find incredible deals if you’re willing to put in the legwork.
With a quick search on websites that aggregate coupons like CouponChief and others, you will often discover some pretty amazing deals, sometimes up to 85% off. It certainly takes a bit more effort to go about shopping this way rather than seeing something you like and immediately hitting the buy button, but this way will save you a serious amount of money on some fantastic brands.
You can also choose to invert your buying habits. By this method, I mean buy your winter clothing during the summer and summer attire during cooler months. Most stores want to shift their old stock to make way for newer, seasonally relevant stock, which tends to result in steep discounts! This is a good way to buy classic pieces that will transition from year to year.
Build A Versatile Wardrobe Around Core Pieces
As I will cover in the next point, you really don’t need too many items to look good. But what you do need to do is acquire versatile pieces that revolve around a few core components.
In practice, this means things like a couple of quality items based around each season that you’re able to mix and match indefinitely. This enables you to keep a tight wardrobe and not spend a fortune. Some call it a capsule wardrobe, and I did do a blog post on this a while ago.
Spend More Money On Fewer Items
There is often an argument that cheaper clothing is now so cheap that you needn’t worry if it damages easily, because you can just order a new set for next to nothing. This is certainly a valid argument, but the major downside to it is that these cheaper items tend not to be the most aesthetically pleasing or use materials that feel pleasant to the touch.
Instead, it’s frequently a much better idea to invest a bit more but in fewer items of clothing. This could mean investing in a couple of different shoes that can last multiple years, high-quality jackets, and other accessories that make up an outfit.
Spending as much as you can afford in the first instance can, in many cases, save you a lot more money later, all while making you look and feel much better than if you opted for the cheapest garments you can find. And, if you follow the first piece of advice in this post, you may also be able to find really high-quality pieces at a discount, thus saving money and still getting great clothing.
Balance Trends With Timeless Style
Fashion trends come and go, and many are cyclical. While I don’t advocate buying an expensive set of Levi bell-bottoms on the off chance that they will come back into fashion soon, there are a few styles that remain timeless regardless of what’s currently trending.
Instead of chasing the latest styles, take a step back and see what has stood the test of time for your particular aesthetic choices. When you take this path, you will end up with an amazing collection that can be worn for a huge range of occasions and, most importantly, won’t have to buy whatever happens to be the latest TikTok trend influencing the market.
You really don’t have to spend a fortune to look fantastic. In fact, as long as you are prepared to put some forethought into your choices and look around for deals, you will end up with a wardrobe suitable for all situations while still having at least some disposable income left over!
