How To Style A Classy Bodycon Dress – Elegant Spring Neutrals

How To Style A Bodycon Dress In A Classy Elegant Way

Happy Monday everyone! I’m starting the week off with another outfit post for you all! This one was one of the first outfits that I shot under the new Ford la Femme fashion blog name, but I hadn’t yet shared it with you as there’s a lot to this post in terms of the styling and showing the different pieces!

To get straight into this look, I was wearing an older Topshop Tie Waist Bodycon Dress that I purchased about 4-5 years ago. I own the same one in black (see here) and they’re just amazing!

I love super stretchy fabric dresses like this as they’re very flattering to the figure, but this one goes that step further with the tie around the waist, helping to cinch you in and create that hourglass look. I think this tie at the waist adds some elegance to a bodycon dress, and puts the focus on the waist. Coupled with the beautiful creamy oatmeal shade, makes it stylish and elegant at the same time! Making it the perfect bodycon dress for dressing up in a classy way.

I layered my REISS Mia Camel Coat over my shoulders as I wanted to show the dress a little more than it would if it was worn properly. This REISS Mia Coat is actually one of my favourite coats I own! The colour is stunning, the design is gorgeous, and it comes in petite which is what I’m wearing.

I’ve worn this coat so much over the last few months, I couldn’t recommend it to you enough! It works perfectly if you want to dress up your outfits and add some classiness to them. It’s also a great shade to go with my Tamara Melon Nude Suede Heels that I was wearing to complete this look too. This coat over the shoulders adds so much structure and depth to the dress, really taking it to a whole new level in terms of adding elegance to the overall ensemble.

Tips For Dressing Up A Bodycon Dress

  • Pick a neutral or black shade for the dress
  • A fitted jersey fabric or something satin/silk is ideal
  • Opt for a tie waist if you can to accentuate the waist and hips
  • Wear a structured coat or blazer over the top or on the shoulders
  • Dress it up with heels or heeled ankle boots in a similar colour
  • Wear dainty, but elegant jewellery to add finishing little touches
  • Opt for an elegant looking bag like the YSL Sac de Jour or Le 5 a 7
  • Go for one colour scheme, like all neutrals or all blacks

Lastly, I chose my Saint Laurent Nano Sac de Jour in Dark Beige that I bought in Selfridges in London in December. I absolutely adore this bag and cannot get enough of it! I know I haven’t reviewed it yet here in a blog post, but I have done a YouTube review of it (view it here) so you can see it in some more detail. The review will be coming soon though, I promise!

Everything about the Nano Sac de Jour in Dark Beige by Saint Laurent is incredible! It’s the most neutral and perfect shade of beige you have ever seen! It doesn’t lean too cold or too warm, and it literally goes with everything – even grey! It’s the perfect addition of classiness to this outfit that I could have gone for in my opinion!

So that’s my outfit details above, and how I would wear a bodycon dress in an elegant way like this, but I’ve also included two other options for styling a bodycon dress below, which I gave details about as well. Please do let me know what you think of this ensemble in the comments below!

Below you will find the second shoe option for this elegant bodycon dress styling! The nude heels give a really smart, classy approach, while the white ankle boots do dress it down a little bit and give a little bit more of a casual element, while remaining structured and fancy in my opinion. The ankle boots give it just that little bit more edge while still holding onto elegance. Either way works!

And below are two shots of the outfit without the coat, so you can see how the bodycon dress fits. This shows why the tie waist feature is so important for highlighting the curves of the female body in the right places. You can see without the coat over the top, the entire look loses some of its structure, making it a little more casual again. So the best way to dress up a jersey style bodycon dress is with heels and a structured jacket or coat over the top, to piece things together. Which way do you like?

That’s a lovely knit dress on you! I think the tie waist detail is so cute and the neutral coat and bag are the perfect pairing with it. I always admire how well you wear neutrals! šŸ™‚

That knit dress looks great on you! The tie waist element is adorable, and the neutral coat and purse complement it perfectly.
