6 Ways You Can Build Your Confidence Back Up

Have you lost some of your confidence recently? Perhaps something has happened that has made you feel slightly less secure in yourself than you used to. Or, maybe you have changed somehow and it’s taken some of that confidence that you once held. No matter the reason, it’s important that you know that you can build your confidence back up, as long as you are willing to put in the work. If you’re not, then it’s never going to work and you won’t be able to achieve your goal until you are really willing to fight for it.

I’ve come such a long way with my confidence. I’ve gone from having major anxiety and panic attacks daily, not even being able to go out and speak to anyone, to flying to the United States alone and not even thinking about talking to strangers or asking for what I need anymore. It’s a complete 180. If I can do it, you definitely can! If you are interested in learning about some of the ways that you can build your confidence back up, you’re in the right place. Read on if you want to know more.

Visit The Salon

Providing your confidence isn’t so low that you can’t even talk to strangers (like mine was), this is a good one. Sometimes a visit to the salon is all it takes to make you feel worlds better, especially if you haven’t been for a while. I’m not saying that this is going to be a magical cure to your lost confidence problem, but it might be the first stepping stone that helps to get you there. There are a range of options for services that you can get done at the salon, all of them designed to make you feel beautiful, and bring back some of the confidence that you don’t have at the moment.

For example, you can get your haircut, coloured or whatever you want to try. You can get your nails done, your brows waxed, your eyelashes tinted and so much more. Think about what kind of services you enjoy, and how they make you feel when they are completed. Once you have identified which services are going to be best for you, book them and see how you feel when you come out of the salon! I know looking good really does help you to feel better in yourself.

Get A New Wardrobe

If you want to feel confident, then you are going to have to dress confident. I know that a lot of people say that beauty is pain, but it really doesn’t have to be. There is something empowering about feeling comfortable and looking good at the same time, so if you can achieve this with a new wardrobe, then it’s definitely going to be a big bonus.

You can look at sites like Guizio for some of your new pieces, as well as the places that you would normally shop in. Trying something new is always daunting, but it’s all about how you feel once you get past that fear. If you need help, then you can always speak to a professional or feel free to ask me any questions. Getting advice about how to dress for your skin tone, body type and so on is super important.

The most important thing is that you get the fits right and that the clothing makes you feel confident and happy. There’s nothing worse than wearing something that’s too tight and you feel self conscious in it, especially if you’re worried about specific body parts and those are highlighted in a certain garment. You want to make sure you have the right size, the right length (especially sleeves) and the right colour!

Practice Being Kind To Yourself

Being kind to yourself is important, wouldn’t you say? How would you feel if you found out that someone that you love was speaking to themselves negatively? That they were putting themselves down? That they weren’t nice to themselves as a general rule? It would make you feel sad right? Well, why does the same not apply to you? You need to be kind to yourself as much as other people need to be kind to themselves, and there are no two ways about this.

Practice being kind to yourself by looking in the mirror once per day and saying something nice to yourself. Pick out one thing that you like about yourself, whether it’s something physical or a personality trait. Being kind to yourself doesn’t always have to relate to your appearance, and it will help to build up the confidence that you have lost.

Get Out With Friends

Going out with your friends and socialising is a fantastic way to help regain your confidence. Being around people who show you love, acceptance, and spend their time building you up rather than tearing you down is massively important to the process. As well as this, hiding inside, never going out and isolating yourself from those that you love is never going to help, and it’s only going to make the problem worse. You can’t hide from the world, you need to get out with the people who love you, and have a good time. You only live once. If you do have a social phobia, try to work on this slowly. It will get better.

Realise It’s Okay Not To Be Okay

If you are struggling with your confidence levels then it may just be a case of saying to yourself that it is okay not to be okay. You don’t have to feel guilty or bad about having the occasional off day. If you don’t feel like having a bath or going out with friends then curl up on the sofa and read a book or watch a movie. You don’t have to be a joyous source of life and soul for all hours of the day. Taking the occasional ten minutes out of your day to collect yourself is perfectly fine. If you have people pressuring you to be yourself and be happy all the time then it may be worthwhile looking for some new friends.

Get Rid Of Toxicity

Finally, if you are surrounding yourself with mean people then they could be bringing your confidence levels down. For instance, does someone in your life make you feel bad for eating or drinking too loudly. This isn’t a you problem, this is all down to them. People have to eat and drink to survive and there is no possible way you can do it so loudly that it annoys someone. If you have family or friends that bring you down then it might be time to walk away and say bye for good. If you have tried previously but had no success then speaking to friends about it could help you overcome this issue.

I would also recommend looking at what you consume on social media and the internet. If you login to Instagram feeling happy and then all of a sudden you see a post that makes you feel upset or less confident in yourself, unfollow that account. It’s all about self preservation and removing toxic things from your life, which includes online as much as offline. Surround yourself with only positive things.

I hope you found this article helpful and that it gave you some ideas on how you can build up your confidence levels. Remember, it’s perfectly okay to not feel yourself sometimes. If it goes on and leads into other mental health issues, that is when it could become a problem. I have been there. There are plenty of things you can do to keep your confidence levels up, so find the ones that work for you.
