Get Party Season Ready With Very.co.uk

I’m back with another amazing collaboration with Very.co.uk to round out the 2025 year! The month of December is my absolute favourite when it comes to getting dressed up. The sequins, the glitter, the statement dresses, the faux fur coats, the fancy shoes… party season is in full swing, and it gives me an excuse to do the one thing I love: get dressed up!

For a lot of people, especially myself, there’s so much fun to be had during the getting-ready process, leading up to going out and enjoying the evening. I know some friends love to get together a few hours before and get ready as a mini party on its own, which I think is really fun, but for me, I love the quieter, chilled-out aspect of it.

When it comes to my going out routine, my favourite part is choosing my outfit! I sometimes pick out my pieces a week or more in advance, to make sure I’m fully prepared and going to be comfortable in my ensemble. Laying the clothing pieces out together so I can see how it all looks, or trying it all on beforehand, this is a key component in making sure your night goes smoothly!

Next up, I take my time with my shower, making sure I don’t get too hot or tired, as I need a lot of energy to style my thick hair and get ready! I usually put some music on, so I can listen to something uplifting while I start doing my make-up and sipping on a herbal tea or hot chocolate. I will say that my make-up is one of the best parts. Deciding on what eye-shadow to wear, how big I want my eyelashes, how bold my lipstick should be… It’s so much fun!

Also, this is the time of year when you can wear velvet bows in ponytails or big, bold curls… There are so many different, festive hairstyles, and it all depends on the outfit. For mine here, I went with my hair straight so that it wouldn’t detract from the outfit, and I kept my make-up a little more simple for this look, but I’ll always love a glittery eyeshadow!

Here are my must-have pieces for getting ready to go out:

Sequins – This is a MUST when it comes to December parties! Whether that’s in the form of a sequin skirt or top, a bag or shoes, or going a bit more bold with a sequin dress (this is the ultimate must-have), you absolutely need sequins!

Faux Fur – A faux fur coat is an ultimate essential for Christmas and New Year parties! They’re the perfect accompaniment to a sequin dress, much like the outfit I put together here. Not only does one keep you warm – it’s super chic too.

Glitter – Much like sequins, you also need glitter! I love glittery eyeshadows, or glitter serums for my hair… if you’re not big on sequins, why not opt for a glittery pair of shoes! This injects some festive sparkle into your outfit!

A few tips for going out – My Christmas tool kit: 

Always take a little snack in your purse or bag, as sometimes there’s not always enough food to eat. This will help you function better!

Take chewing gum or mints. I always do in case I need to freshen my breath.

Pack a spare pair of tights/pantyhose. They’re super easy to rip or ladder, so a new pair is often needed, ESPECIALLY if you’re wearing a sequin dress or skirt. I can’t tell you how many times a sequin has snagged mine!

The Ultimate Party Season Outfit

Now, I think you will have to agree with me that the ultimate party season outfit consists of a black midi dress (or mini dress) and a faux fur jacket! You cannot beat this combination! And when sequins are involved, it elevates it to perfection!

This look here is entirely from Very.co.uk as they literally have everything you could ever need for the festive party season! I chose this beautiful The Very Collection Off Shoulder Velvet Sequin Dress in Black. I love how the shoulder detail looks like a Christmas bow! It’s one of the prettiest Christmas dresses that I have ever seen. Definitely a staple for parties!

To match the black sequins on the dress, I chose these The Very Collection Kitten Heels as they have an identical design! They complement the dress perfectly. To create a seamless balance between the two, I wore some sheer black pantyhose/tights too, and I think this added some elegance to the ensemble.

Keeping with the sparkly theme, I kept my jewellery simple and opted for this Sekonda Gold Crystal Jewellery Set as it has a beautiful watch and bracelet combo that can be worn together. This really plays off of the gold hardware on my YSL Kate Clutch, too! I didn’t overdo it with a necklace, though, as the off-the-shoulder design of the dress looked pretty sexy as it was.

Then, to finish it all off and inject a little bit of seasonally appropriate colour, I layered this Quiz Dark Red Faux Fur Jacket over my shoulders! This really tied everything together and just looks so beautiful. I think faux fur and sequins are the best part about party outfits in December, entirely. This jacket is really plush and warm, while being cropped enough to look elegant.

The faux fur jacket and sequin dress combo is the ultimate look every year. It never gets tired or old; it’s a look that slays every December and makes a statement while doing it. It’s a timeless pairing that makes a statement at every event, whether it’s the office party, a festive girls’ night out, or anything in between. You can’t go wrong with this pairing!
